Converting Ivy - our South African W114 280 from carb to efi

Post by zohar »

This project has been such a mission. Initial attempt ended up with the Weber back in place and the FiTech system relegated to a few months in the boot. Eventually a more competent garage was selected and the project was brought to conclusion.

On the way the rusty fuel tank was opened, refurbished and zinc plated. The Pertronix ignition was found to be incorrectly installed - running extreme advance at idle (wrong sensor position) and a few other detours. The car starts on the button, idles rock steady , drives like champ and the M110 sounds amazing. Quite a few tuning tweaks required as this system is designed and configured for a much larger engine.

Since buying the kit both FiTech and Holley have released two barrel versions of this type - more suitable for engines like this.
Highly recommended for carb M110s

Well done, always interesting to hear about 'retrofit' options that might keep our cars running well.
