W115 Temp Gauge and Fuel Gauge inop

Post by PoidaW111 »

Hi everyone.
Recently picked up a 76 W115 200.
Everything is pretty good on it, but temp gauge and fuel gauge don't work.
I've done a bit of searching and found lots of issues with fuel senders, but from what I can tell I've got a gauge issue. If I understand it correctly if I disconnect the sender the gauge should go full.... but it doesn't move.
Also, I've checked the wire from the temp sensor and it's got resistance to ground so there's no open circuit.
I've checked all the fuses and all are ok, but I don't know which fuse powers instruments.
I've heard there are earth issues with the gauges but can't find where they earth
Any ideas?.
I can't find a wiring diagram for the W115 200. If anyone has one that would help.

Anyone with wiring diagram for instruments?
Specifically pin out for connector at back of cluster please.
Thanks.

Hi Poida,

I'm just using my phone and don't have my glasses with me, so not sure if this extract from another w114 model helps. I would have thought they'd share instrumentation / wiring, but then again MB did a lot of customising for each model so I could be wrong.

Thanks for that.
It doesn't show the pin out of the cluster though... that seems to be the hardest part to find.
I've just sourced another cluster out of an auto so I'll swap the fuel gauge and temp gauge out of that and keep my fingers crossed!
