Foolish Mortal 1uzfe W114

Post by Bangbug »

Hello Chaps,

Having done 1 engine transplant I figured I quite liked it and wanted to do a v8.
So I picked the widest, most stupid v8 I could find to make my life hard and put it into a vehicle I've had a soft spot for.

This may have been a year ago....... :P

Current state of engine bay:

Had a crack and repairing this crack

It didn't work out, but I think I want a tig anyway :P

Some existing underfloor repairs:

And I've got me a practise car:
She's fecked good and proper, well the body is, the engine and trans look ok, it's a transplanted 615 diesel and auto box.
Anyone want anything?

And because I'm a Kiwi I'm surprised when I find a spider staring me in the face and unman ourselves with squeaks

And the 700x700 cube that has to fit SOMEHOW!!!!!!!
Image
It's the vvti version so I have wiring/security nightmares to contend with as well.
I'm pretty much full of self hate and seem set to punish myself repeatedly, hahaha!!

If your practice car has a good cream interior and you are located in Vic, I would be interested in the seats.

I'd love to say they are.
But they're buggered and I'm over the ditch :(

Decided I'll pull the rear subframe too to see how that goes together.
I'll post some pictures of rust you'll not believe, well maybe you'll believe the rust but NOT that it had a WOF to go with it!
Ahh, dodgy WOF mates. Wish I had some :)

Oh and while I'm here.
I see a couple of bagged W114's on here.
Looks like the front shock should be fine but the rear will need relocating, looks like there are a couple of good points for attachment which is great.
I'm surprised that there is no "kit" for the W114.
The 108 is the simplest you can do so there is at least one for that but nada for 114 or have I been looking in the wrong places?
Universal plates are obviously fine and I guess one of the shock relocation mounts.
Perhaps I'll keep my templates and create one?

Well I haven't updated this much at all!

I've been collecting parts, which is a necessary part of old car ownership.

The rust bucket I pulled apart, nut and bolt.
Very very little was retained and it's gone to the big scrap heap in the sky.
Gave the engine away on the proviso that it went into something... then a few months later I see it on trademe being sold. super. duper. Apparently they tried. :boohoo:

Sold the 2.5 from the better one, so that was cool.
I'm usually a sucker for just giving things away, brought a leak down tester for peace of mind since I was selling it.
Which indicates that I've been pulling the better one apart.
I now say better because I've discovered that old fords and old merc rust in polar opposite places. haha.
And there has been some HORRIBLE repair attempts. I mean RIVETS and PLATES and lots and lots of BLACK POOS. :banghead:
Found it has been rear ended and just FILLED WITH BOG instead of pulling the metal back out, so I'm going to learn panel beating now. ha.

On the upside, the doors and front fenders are at the media blasters.
Next Saturday I take the bonnet and boot.
The following the shell.

Door seals/window guides etc all that sort of stuff I'll have to replace as the old ones are buggered.
I see Bart has had experience with a bloke in Turkey with A/M stuff. Doesn't sound like a particularly bad experience so might give it a crack, either that or AutohausAZ since it looks like they have pretty much everything I need.
20m of window channel though, so twice what is required but OEM at a brilliant price, anyone in NZ want some?
Anyone in NZ want to buy some parts at the same time?

After being buggered by my last international purchase I'm gun shy, if Australians could read it'd have gone ok.
If NZ'rs could read it would have gone even better.
In the end I got the TIG I wanted :sunny:

I'll post some pics next post aye?
Everyone loves pictures :)

Hi there!
So what is your plan for getting around the firewall struts? I heard that when MB got rid of them they made a thicker firewall but not sure. Removeable strut brace?
Cheers, Drew

Hi Drew,

Yes a removable brace is the plan.
Will probably end up looking like a front sway bar :happy3:

Hello Everyone else,

Started wrenching on her again!
WHY the long delay?
Because I'm a special boy and wreck myself on the regular, turned my L4/5 disc into porridge which squirted out and pretty much crippled me.
Flat out on my back was the only relief from screaming agony :D
Had wonderful kink in my spinal cord, long story short, they haven't done much about it and now our "wonderful" ACC has decided it's "degenerative" because someone they paid to said so (VISA extension for him, never mind the specialists/doctors/everyone else) :violent3:
So basically life isn't much fun but it's glacially getting better.
Have to sell the business though as I'm too wrecked, no idea what I'm going to do for coin? ARRGH! Mortgage! Food!
Sell Mercedes? I should, that would be smart, but being smart has been a horrible burden so far this life so to hell with that!
/gripe

The media blasters did a great job on the panels I gave em, sorry I have no photos as yet (and need to update this thread with new links to a new host).
CO2 and an air chisel lifted the interior deadening pretty well.
Found more terrible repairs! :banghead:
Still have a large credit at the media blasters so the body will be over there.... sooner rather than later? Well I do hope so.

Have a computer at home now so I guess I'll have a nice time browsing through the forum and checking out what all your amazing bits and bobs!

Cheerio,

Geez, that is a long time to be in pain... But you seem to have come through it with a sense of humour intact! (And some masochism, to be contemplating modifying cars supposedly for fun). So I look forward to seeing some progress on your project, and hope you find a solution to non-car woes.
Cheers, Drew

Thanks Drew :)

MC'd a wedding earlier in the year, someone came to shake my hand and thank me as he had enjoyed my dry humour.
(smile) "Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!"
(look vacantly at the floor) "it's... it's... all I have"
Split his sides.

Am ordering some panels from the States. (rear end stuff)
Wish they made slam panels, mine has been "repaired" previously.
Might have a word with a merc wrecker here and see if I can cut one out.
They'll be here next month I guess.

I'll post some pictures :)
