Will a M119 fit a W107

Post by TargaSL » Mon 23 Nov, 2009 3:47 pm

Does anyone know this exactly

I am getting conflicting opinions

the main issue is the width of the quad cam heads

can anyone measure their M119 and let me know exactly how wide the motor is?

thanks

Paul, I've heard rumours that despite fitting, the block itself is not much different to m117 560/420/500, and that may be of concern to you after the last one thew a leg out.

I would rather hear from John or someone who's had a 119 fully apart to define the differences clearly. I have heard the bottom end is almost 'indestructable' but then again the 117 is allegedly so as well.

I think despite Paul's little 'problem' it is still safe to say that the M117 block itself is strong enough for the task. I was under the impression that it was an issue of not getting enough power.

If Sauber were able to do what they did with both the M117 and M119 in the C9 I don't think reliability is as big an issue as Paul's exploding block might indicate.

I can't imagine that Paul would be pushing harder than Sauber did at Le Mans over 24 hours.

247mph is a pretty awesome top speed for an M119 powered car.

One of the major reasons i believe that the engine lunched itself was that i limped it home for over a day with failing oil pressure

Though i have also broken the original 380 that the car came with (which was why the 5.5 went in)

If i had a sponsor it would be no drama to experiment with a 117
if you have seen the list of mods i put up a while ago they are extensive but achievable

the issue for me is now that after i get used to reliable 500hp + going back to circa 300 and spending a lot of $ doing that and stressing about how brittle it is has got me worried

The answer seems to boost it somehow but the issue of fuel balance especially at sustained high revs is a real drama that can only be solved by electronic metering (Motec etc)

we believe these mods which should make the engine sustainable over several days of punishment but it looks like a $30k exercise and most likely needs to get stripped down after about 3-5 K racing miles (every year)

I don't have the budget for that, but if i find a sponsor it becomes feasible

In the meantime the MerChevy should be firing up next week
