W164 320D Steering Adjustment Motor

Post by wbell » Tue 30 May, 2017 6:48 pm

The steering column lift has failed. Any advice on the simplest way to repair.

The motor itself (to raise and lower the column) is working but the column does not. I believe the gear shaft attached to motor is stripped and needs replacing. I also believe (from MB) that you cant just buy just the simple part required. You have to replace the whole steering column.

Has anyone been successful in a. accessing the motor and faulty part - hopefully without having to remove the whole console and dash b. finding a simple solution/repair of the stripped part?

Really appreciate the help.
