W164 2009 AMG ML63 - Media Interface Cable?

Post by mdotk » Sat 26 Nov, 2016 7:20 pm

Hi all, just got a '09 ML63 and am trying to get a media cable so I can plug in my iphone and play music.

The only connector in the car I have found looks like this - http://imgur.com/a/jOV4m

It is in the centre arm rest. It doesn't look like it will fit the types of cables I have seen on eBay (eg http://www.ebay.com/itm/APS-AUX-media-I ... 1296041879)

Any one have any ideas?

Thanks!

No I don't believe that cable will work.

IIRC that socket is for the phone puck and I can't recall if you can get a bluetooth puck for that.

You may need to talk to someone at MB or download the Command manual from MB USA site to see what connection you need.

Thanks. What is a puck?

It would be weird if it was for a phone as I have my phone successfully synced to the car via Bluetooth?
I just need a solution to play music via my phone or even via 3.5mm audio cable would be ok.

If you already have bluetooth, you should be able to play audio through it and not require any cables at all.

Download yourself a copy of the Command manual.

I've also had another thought, there should be a AUX socket in the glovebox you could use also.

Thank you for the manual links mate, downloading now. I think the issue is that it's a Jap import. Apparently the wiring is completely different to any other country. Hopefully the manuals help somewhat.

The dealer also specifically said that even though you can make phone calls via blue tooth, music playback wasn't something any Mercedes car could do via bluetooth until like 2015!

Someone also gave me this link http://www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/us/ ... mpare/~mtp and this one http://www.mercedes-benz-mobile.com/us/ ... pare/~ipod to see the part numbers, but when I search for those part numbers they come up on eBay looking totally different to the port I have (meaning that it must be a phone port like you said!).

I had a good look in the glovebox and there is no plugs or ports whatsoever... I did take another good shot of the armrest port though http://imgur.com/ATINSx1 and http://imgur.com/nWwjwLs

PS: I am also missing this part - http://imgur.com/FjVTvau - a cupholder of some sort I'm assuming?

Thanks

The thing at the back is either an ashtray or cubby, depending on option selected.

Odd there isn't an AUX port in the glovebox, it should be hidden on the side nearest the console when the gb is open.

You may well be right about the bluetooth audio capability being not until later.

So stupid, after you said the above I looked in the glovebox for a 5th time and found the 3.55mm audio jack. Off to buy a cable tomorrow from the local and will test! Thank you!
