GLK 220 in Australia?

Post by GrampiansMerc » Thu 21 May, 2015 3:48 pm

Hey there on a resent trip to Germany I notice several interesting (slightly ugly) mercedes models - mainly GLK 220 CDI

https://autoworld.wordpress.com/2008/04 ... and-photo/

It is a SUV type wagon - a bit like a Subaru Forester.
Have they not been introduced to Australia or are they a bit new so I have not seen any?

They seem like a vehicle that might do well in Australia
Good engineering, ugly but so are Foresters (I have one), good wagon style, not too high & truck like and hopefully reasonably priced (at least secondhand)?

And not too snooty, stuck-up soccer mum car - is BMW X5, Porsche Cheyenne :laughing5:
Or Bogan/try hard soccer mum car - Mitsubishi Pajero, Holden Captiva :puke:
Just my option so don't send lots of emails about my judgement of Soccer mum cars!!

It hasn't been sold in Australia, but that may change - it will be renamed the GLC and a second generation released this year.

MB Aus already has the GLA and GLA compact/crossover SUVs so not sure if they will bring it out or not though.

I don't know why they wouldn't bring them to OZ - smaller "S.U.V"'s are selling like hotcakes - outselling many traditional sedan cars.
The C Class has been 10th best selling sedan car so far this year. C Classes outselling BMW3 series, Audi's and a few other Euros in that market segment combined.

Neice had the last version of the Forester. She bingled it and replaced it with a Ford Kuga - big mistake. Kuga is a P.I.T.A in the wet. Now she want's another Forester.
If this new smaller Benz comes to Australia she would be after one of them.

Be mad if they didn't. My 166 is out of lease in 18 months and I took a low risdual on it with the thought of keeping it and retiring the 163. Whilst a great family SUV it is starting to be a bit of a handful in the smaller car parks in shopping centres as they aim to squeeze in more shoppers $$$. I spend too much time trying to find spots away from others to reduce the car door dents on it and SWMBO is now saying it's too big to keep now that our daughter is driving and has her own car.
We like the SUV for the ride height and the GLA is really just a hatch back on stilts and I don't see it As a proper SUV due to roof height and leg room. I saw the first series GlK in the U.S. A couple of years ago and they are a great size and certainly in contention in the mid/small SUV stakes here in Oz. I hope they do release here as at the moment I am considering something smaller like a C class So fingers crossed they do.

Flirting with other Germans until the right coupe comes up
