propellor shaft flex disc swap?

Post by stunkat » Tue 10 Apr, 2018 6:49 pm

Evening All,

the rear flex disc on my 94 E220 cabrio ( 128k km) has a semi-regular habit of throwing and (occasionally) snapping a bolt or 2 causing a vibration under load such as hills or above about 70 kph so I've decided its time to replace it entirely this time. But I haven't had any issues trouble with the front flex disc or the centre bearing / mount...Is it necessary to replace the front flex disc and the centre bearing at the same time or just the rogue rear one?

All advice appreciated

Cheers,
Stunkat

Are you sure it's not your centre bearing and or housing causing the rear flex disk issue?
I would be replacing both at the same time.
You really need to disconnect the centre bearing to get the rear flex disk off properly anyway.

Thanks for your quick reply...

I can't be 100% sure and I hadn't really considered the entire "food" chain before although visual inspection hasn't shown up anything previously (novice mistake)
Given the prop shaft is still running the original flex discs and centre bearing, I'm going to do the lot and hopefully that will keep things in order for the next 24 years....

Appreciate your advice

Cheers,
Stu
