Hard to Get Air Intake Hose

Post by gjlockyer » Thu 22 Sep, 2016 2:15 am

Most W124's Ive seen (including mine) have a damaged Air Intake Hose, bound up with duct tape, hanging off the Air Cleaner. The part, 1030900382, is proving hard to get; found a few places in the US that stocked one, but none shipped internationally. And then I found http://www.germanimportsllc.com/10airinboins.html Total cost? US28 (AUS$37 at present exchange rate) - and that includes freight. One is on its way to my place. Don't know how many they have left, but you might like to check them out.

most of the unattractive flimsy black plastic parts on w124's are very reasonably priced, I replaced all that ductwork on my 124 for very little from the USA too. Most parts under $10us each. Even the baked and brittle radiator surrounds etc.

Any part that is a beautification part with any attention to detail, usually on the interior is when the price sky rockets or is simply NLA.

The "hard to get" air intake hose is proving indeed to be hard to get. I've placed two orders with this website, and paid by Paypal. Payments for both orders appeared in my on-line banking account as "pending" and then just disappeared - no funds were actually transferred. There have been no confirmation of order emails from the firm in spite of both orders generating a "receipt" and no replies to the two emails I've sent asking what the problem is.
I've got a number of parts from overseas without any problems at all, and while no damage has been done or loss incurred, this site / firm is a joke. Don't waste your time trying.

This hose is NLA as confirmed by searching it on pelican parts website.

You are going to have to source a good used one unfortunately.

It may just be that their return emails have been blocked by your ISP's Spam Blockers ....

Thanks for the idea, Christo. Checked out my spam folder and settings. No sign of anything apart from the drug stores and casinos being blocked. Just on the off chance, I've emailed them from my work email. We'll see what happens.

I had a similar experience with an australian online parts supplier but they did take the money and then not respond to any emails. Paid via paypal and alerted them - got my money back after a couple of months but what a waste of my time waiting around for a part etc. I should check and see if the site is still up - you would think paypal would cross off their services at least - wasting not only my time but also theirs.

So far, 'till now, I've not had a problem with ordering parts on line, either from Australia or the US - and that includes, of course, our Forum Sponsor.
I tried calling the firm by phone this morning ... and got an answering machine with a non=specific greeting asking me to leave a message. Since it was well within working hours, I am getting the feeling that the site is no longer active. A pity, as the part was very reasonably priced.

And now I really do need a replacement. Checked the oil this morning, and the remnants of the old black plastic tape-repaired Air Intake Hose had collapsed and was getting mangled by the drive belt. It was completely dislodged from both the Air Filter Housing and the Air Hose Boot that is attached next to the radiator. Now the motor is just sucking air from the engine compartment instead of from outside it.

There are a few websites, including Stealerships, advertising the part as "No Longer Available" but still in their stock, however the cost and freight is pretty steep if they do ship overseas. I may have to resort to having it shipped to friends in the US who will then post it on.

Don't suppose anyone has a 2nd hand one available?

While I do not know thew details of this hose, there are plenty of hoses available from aftermarket suppliers. Start with your local car parts shop (Repco, Supercr@p, etc), ask them if they can get something similar. if no joy, go to a specialist 'hot rod' parts shop, they should be able to point you in the right direction. Basically, you need the inside diameter and length of the hose. If you have a sample of the material then you should be able to get some to fit, in a similar material (aluminum, plastic, fibre, etc).

I hope this helps,
Tony

I did a quick google search and found 6 prices for the item.

Australia Post has a postage forwarding service in the USA which (I have been informed) is very competitive.
Check it out at https://shopmate.auspost.com.au

I was curious to check from the angle of searching for other parts. Most of the prices quoted are nothing like it once you check the item and....... one can't find the part, one says "usually in stock" and the rest are 'out of stock'. Might try the service with another part though!

Thanks for the leads, Tony. When I went through the price listings to the store web sites, the hose was listed as "Out of Stock." The helpful people at FCP Euro parts gave me a link to Pelican Parts - same problem! But then I noticed in the "Cart" that their database had found an "Alternative." I'd never seen other than a Genuine MB Hose listed by anyone, so out of interest clicked on it. Turned up a second listing of the same part, also a genuine MB one, but at a cheaper price down from US$48 to US$39! I took it. The order has been confirmed, funds transferred, and it's being processed - with a set of genuine MB Injector lower seals also ordered at US$3.50 each at no increase in the freight. Success! - even if it required a fair bit of time and persistence.

The W124 Air Intake Hose is NLA as most members will know.
However, I have several to choose from. One is unmarked and in perfect condition, absolutely ‘as good as new’. Others are repaired using a new flexible section from Mercedes Benz which is bonded to the oval section and is invisible to the eye (see photo) – the photo is a repaired hose. From $50. Local pick-up or can post within Australia. Located Ashburton/Glen Iris. Call for details. David 0412 550 020
