Panel Beaters / Painters in Melb area - Any Recommended

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=20901
Carl has now got his nice SEC Coupe back home from his local workshop from a complete workshop checkover by a W126 specialist.
He needs to find a decent panel/paint shop to do some a minor rear dent repair above the right rear taillight alloy trim (needs panel work and not just dent removal)
and to re-paint his bumpers and side trims in matching body colour
Has had a high priced quote and needs to seek a small shop that is not bogged down with Insurance Work that most are only interested in these days

Or a retired panel beater who does small jobs would be ideal
Any idea's for Carl

Maybe the other Melbourne "Carl" with the 380SE can recommend the fellow he used?

You could try Matt Who owns Alpha in Melb and did a resto on his 6.3 which looks fantastic. I think a few on here have seen it at the M100 Melb drive last year.
His profile is merc_4882 Carl can PM him.

Thanks Kim.

The service on this forum is spectacular. I thought I'd ask this very question but it's been done for me!

Thanks Kim B and Steven, I will try Matt at Alpha although Seaford is about as far away from as is possible while still theoretically being in Melbourne.

I'm in the western suburbs which is generally a pain in the arse when your trying to find anyone with Merc experience. I have to travel a long way at the moment to get to a decent indy mechanic but hopefully someone can recommend a good westie panel shop or maybe one in the north which is easier for me to get to. The paint is generally in really good nick so I don't really want to be respraying large swathes if it's not absolutely necessary.

Also if anyone knows someone for car audio installations? I'm a little sceptical of the guys that JB/Autobarn use, I'd do it myself if I didn't think I'd set the car alight and/or electrocute myself.

Cheers

No problem Carl and I know when I finally get my first old Benz there is soooo much good info and people here.
Re Car audio maybe PM GNGSTA as he alway seems to chime in on retrofit of car audio with good knowledge and as he is Melb based he might know someone on your side of town.

Well I've got a pretty reasonable quote from a panel shop in Coburg that does a lot of private work on Ferraris, Porsches, Benzs etc so I'm pleased.

I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the colour for the bumpers and lower cladding? The body colour is Almandine 512 but the bumpers and cladding along the side panels is called Navarra which I thingk from memory is 3521. It's a satin finish but I'm undecided to keep it the same or spray it in the same colour as the body. If I do get is body coloured, do I do it in satin or gloss?
I had been considering a body kit for the car so had always thought body colour for the cladding but I've gone off the kit idea a bit so am thinking maybe as original?
It's apparent I'm in two (or possibly more) minds.

I can't help with that decision, jury still out on my white car and when i posted the question there was a mix of replies. Take your time but I figure there is no correct answer. My cars have painted panels in gloss including the 560SEL.

Thanks Craig

You're right, there's no definitive answer but just interested in your thoughts. I'm starting to think that sticking with the original is the way to go. The door handle surrounds and mirror units are the same satin finish Navarra and I think it looks good. I had ideas of AMG kits etc and may still put some 17 inch aeros on it down the track but I just like the whole look of it as is.
I've actually realised that while I prefer the gen 2 cars in stock form, for some reason I'm not as much a fan of the gen 2 amg cars as the gen 1. I don't quite know what it is about them but I still hanker after an all white gen 1 500sec with bodykit and 16x8 body coloured pentas. I do have an extremely understanding wife so there is hope.

I actually know what you mean but not exactly sure why either. Maybe the ribs in those panels. Anyway, will keep you in mind if i ever get my white SEC happening. Its been said before that lots of people don't see it this way, but i do think of my cars as 'investments' and i have turned enough cars over through the years that i do keep in mind what 'the market' might like along with my own likes, just in case i decide to move something on. I reckon your car as the 'flagship' top spec SEC, and with so many modified in some way, i reckon good bog standard ones might just have that extra rarity and desirability into the future and not always easy to achieve that once modded. Just a thought of support of the way you were tending.
