W220 (2000 S320) USB kit

Post by Richard46 »

Does anyone know if a USB/memory card/iPhone kit is available that connects to the command stereo system in the W220?

AFAIK.
The only phone that was originally compatible back in those days was a MB supplied Nokia. They (the stealerships) wanted big bucks for the phone and the unit that connected this phone with the Command via the fibre optic bus system.

When I bought my W209 in 2004 there was a prewired phone cradle in the central armrest. The stealership wanted some ungodly amount of money for a Nokia dumbarse phone that was years out of date and available on eBay for $50.00.
Even if I bought my own handset there was going to be a big service charge to match it to the Canbus system.

Call up Soundlabs.com.au. I suspect that they will have something compatible. Nowadays there are hacks.

If you are still in the market for a device to connect a USB / memory card or iPhone to your command system, there are several options available. I am in the process of doing this myself and will keep you posted as to what I finally decide to do.

The options are to buy a device to connect into the existing sound system or replace it with an aftermarket unit that connects into the fibre optic amplifier connections. All options are advertised on eBay, then just google reviews on each. You can achieve what you want to do from as little as $20......

At this stage I'm favouring the complete after market unit as this gives me an up to date GPS system as well and I can get free map updates. There are two brands I'm considering, Xtrons and Erisin, both are android systems with good reviews.
The main thing is you can achieve what you want to do with several options available.....from as little as $18.89 so don't think it is expensive.
