Non-functioning odo & trip meter

Post by si001 » Wed 17 Apr, 2019 4:06 am

This follows on from my previous (and first) post where I am considering an early S500 Coupe with the original wiring harness.

Well, I had a PPI done and a couple of things showed up. One was a non-functioning odometer and trip meter. The speedometer works.

How significant a repair is this? Dash parts out? More?

Why might the speedometer work but neither the odo nor trip meter? I would have thought one cable would be the source for all three instruments. Odd that two are not working, but I assume there is some common linkage in there to those two.

Its a common failure in W126 the little plastic gears that drive the odo become brittle and strip maybe its the same issue
