W220 Wheel Alignment. Any recommendations ?

Post by Bpar » Wed 27 Jul, 2016 1:34 pm

My 2000 S320 W220 tends to wander on freeways with very little camber requiring slight steering corrections every 3 or 400 metres. Any wear in the suspension has been repaired but, despite many tries, I have not been able to find any wheel alignment specialists who can cure the wandering.
I am in Sydney and really would appreciate any recommendations about this.
Thanks,
Ben

@Bpar,
Hi mate,
not much response in this forum yet, he? I've got the very same issue with my S500 as described by you, and it annoys the heck out of me...however, I'm certain where it comes from: Blown ball joint(s) (front LHS and RHS) where the lower control arm is hinged to the bottom ball joint of the steering knuckle(s). So by all means, check if this has been sufficient rectified, and if not, sort it out before you do another wheel alignment. I'm currently shopping around for the MB ball joint remover tool and tend to do it myself.
PS: Are the linkages on the back axle 100% free of play? if you have movement at different loads, this might lead to the described sway, too...

If you found the issue, please respond, too!

Greetings and Best of Luck
