Rusty window bits

Evening all,

I'm not sure what the part is called, but I'm talking about the bits of steel that sit under the window glass to attach it to the regulator mechanism - they are all rusty in my car. I assume it is a result of the seal rubbers being perished, letting water in.

The rust is crumbling off and was sitting in the bottom of the doors, rusting those out too. The doors are all cleaned up and treated now, but the window decay is still in progress.

Has anyone replaced these steel pieces? Is it possible? Or should I be looking for new windows?

Also - the rubber seals....are replacements readily available and any idea of ballpark cost?

As always, any thoughts appreciated.

best bet is to do what i did.

Pry the metal frame from the glass, take out the rubber and remove the glass from it ( no need to take it out of the door though )

unbolt the glass holder and then take it to a workshop and make a new one.

Hi Ethan,
Folk have used aluminium channel with rubber to replace the rusted part, attaching the tags that connect to the regulator from the old holder.

will be nice to get the door skins back on...kind of sharp driving around without them on

nowhere, unfortunately

door skins are still off

trying to muster time & motivation

I daresay the old bits will crumble completely and force my hand before too long

Hey mate, make sure you take dimension measurements before it crumbles into pieces to you can fabricate another one and put a new strip of rubber in it :)
