Oran Park Track Day- November16 take the Merc for a spin!!

Hey All,

Not sure whether anyone's mentioned it, but Michel (the pimp with the 690SEL) :D is organising a track day @ Oran park for all those interested.

Date is Sunday November 16
Cost approx $200 (to be confirmed exactly, but this is an accurate enough ballpark figure per person)
it's the South Circuit (the big one, not the figure 8 )

Normally the requirements are for a 'street registered' car to be 'registered'.... nothing else.
Driver has to have 'shoes, long sleeve shirts and pants.' - this means Denim jeans and a decent non-flammable shirt.
Helmet is mandatory and seat belts (if fitted to the car)

If Not registered, then cars must be scrutinized by an official.

Even if you're not gonna come in a Merc, try make it in something else! I'm sure it'll be a great day out.

Cam. :)

Details are here: Oran park track day - topklasse forum

I would just add that this stuff can be infectious! As part of one of our sprints we had a come and try license bit and of the 7 Benzes that just came out for a look and maybe thinking about doing something next year, I think 6 of them can't wait and will be out there for the last sprint of the year! Pretty good hit rate!!

I hope you get your numbers (I imagine the track will cost a certain amount for the day and you will have a break even point) and if not I suppose you could open it up to another club. If price becomes an issue with some (and that seems very reasonable for a day to me) another option might be to lobby your sprint / hillclimb organisation as to including 'come and try' into one of their events, particularly if one is likely to be a bit quiet with numbers for some reason. It is just a matter of them writing it into the supp regs, and because the track is basically already paid for the only esential cost is a one day cams license which is $25. But of course if everyone else is paying for the track, they will want their time still and the come and try are not going to get any where near the track time that you do for $200. I would be there if it wasn't that far away!

Anyway, just mentioning it as an additional idea.

True that Craig!! Very infectious stuff.. :D

Update with some more info..

From Michel:
====================================================================================================
OK........

I have managed to get the impossible.....

SUNDAY .... yes SUNDAY 16th (Oran Park have just had a cancellation....)
and it's at the SOUTH CIRCUIT (the big one).

I have pencilled us in.....
BUT I need to let them know soon....

So a show of hands please....
and then money soon after...
====================================================================================================

Looks like it'll be $200 for the days racing, which covers everything.. just bring your car and a helmet and you're racing.

Who's in????????

*bump*

edited Cam's post so everyone knows the requirements.

People..... get a show of hands and money ready, as this is not something that happens on just a turn up basis.

track day hiring is not cheap, and unless numbers are firm commitments, it may be difficult to organize everyone.

If you have any concerns, send Michel a PM or email from your user control panel.

I never get cocky, i've come off way too many times for that!!

However, I dare say your lap record (to be) would be in trouble if Mr Green was to show up in the mighty MB Spares Crayford (Pentas and all) 8) 8) 8)

Peace..

Yeah, I checked with him already, he hasn't tried it.
I am not impressed that 'Pentas' alone would help, but of course when his 450SEL gets on the road, all bets are off, so I am making the most of it.

Of course Pentas would help!!! They add at least 12KW's of street cred. 8)

There was obviously no interest from members of this forum :( ,

However, I would just like to report that it was a great day. :D

If anyone is interested in seeing footage or pics, check out the TOPKLASSE site or the MBCSNW Forum.

Err, umm. Not quite.

I would have been there if it was not for another prior engagement.

I am sure some of our SA members who are building track day cars would have been there if it was not so far away.

And i know of one of our "Admins" who would have beent here if he wasn't working so hard he has nearly disapeared up his keyboard.....

And there was one of our forum members there......... SELfor50

Maybe you could psot the direct links where the pictures are, not that i am lazy but if you truely want to develop stuff like this you need t make it easy for peole to see how much fun it was....

I can back John up on that, he was quite upset when he told me that he had a prior engagement. :( I personaly would've loved to have his experience on board after the snowball of event's that happened to me on the day..

Un-fortunately the backup batteries that I thought were good for my digital camera were kaput! And I wasn't able to capture any still pics, sorry John!
But I did get some in-car footage that can be seen here (early in the day before the motorsport gods took action against me) http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=PPMv_oTQFtQ
Another vid is here: http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=maGq-lW84 ... re=related

They are both low-res, but will be up in high res later.

The 2nd video was of me catching and dueling with Tony Adytum of the MBNSW forum, in his 450SLC. I had the wood on him in cornering and brakes, but wasn't game enough to swap paint, his car was too nice.

It was a great day out, and did I mention that I was within 7.5 secs of an Evo 10!! My best lap was a 59.06

With the help of Mr Green, i'm sure i'll be back bigger and better next season - watch this space, there's some good developments coming on ol' silver. 8)

All I am going to add to that is WORK is a four letter word. and weekend WORK is the nastiest four letter word you can think of. especially when you have definitive plans for both days.

John, I guess 'we' should do something about a wakefield park day early in the new year??

Might be able to get another date sooner than I thought on behalf of the MBC of NSW...

Anyone interested in mid-Jan or Feb?

My January plans have been shot to pieces. I will be OS again, for work. returning... who knows. I don't have a finish date. hopefully it's only a week or 2, so I'm home before Feb.

Hopefully it's not Thailand!! In Bangkok at the moment, stuck here - not sure how long for. :(

On a positive note - the high res vids of my beast at Oran Park are up.
First 2 are me behind the wheel, and second too are my mate Anthony. While he was driving the car, the fan belt for power steering / water pump went.. he finished is sprint.. but there was a few small casualties with the ol' girl.

We also had a problem where the ignition barrel was turning off while going over the ripple strips. :(
A few points of attention before next years season.
