Next Sydney OZBENZ meeeting...

Post by John Green » Fri 17 Jun, 2011 9:42 pm

At the Pie run there was a sugestion that the next meet should not be a drive, but a meeting. The Idea was to meet at Alex Hollands showroom, have a private viewing of his stock followed by a walk up McLachlan Ave to the Motoring book shop and then to the Cafe at Sandersons. I know the Sanderson family and may be able to get some kind of tour around there stealership??

Cars can be safely parked off the road at Alex place where we will have plenty of time to oggle at them and tell lies...

Who is interested??

10/11 July??? would be better as it is a bit closer. then we can plan for say 2nd w/e every month?

that means we can make it a regular thing.

if people are coming from the same area, why not meet up closer to your location and travel in together? makes things just a little more enjoyable. a couple or a few cars travelling together convoy-style makes for a little more enjoyment.

Hey Joe,

11 July is fine if you don't need to work on a Monday! 9-10 July is no good, that's the Mountain Rally weekend!

I'll do you a deal. I'll skip a rally on 18 September so I can spend the weekend in Canberra for the German Autofest and MBCACT concours with you guys if you check the calendar at http://www.classicrallyclub.com.au/calendar.htm before choosing dates for OZBENZ get-togethers!

By the way, Sunday 18 September in Canberra is a must for MB enthusiasts and should be considered a mandatory OZBENZ get-together for anyone on here who can make the journey.

Count me in depending on date. July 30 a no no. I shd be OK for earlier in month.

Also, just a thought...maybe once a month is too frequent. What about every second month? Thoughts?

Kim,

I think the problem with spacing them out is that people inevitably will not be able to make a date for whatever reason.

By keeping the schedule frequent and on a regular 'Day' it makes it easier for those who miss one, can try and make the next etc etc.

The only issue we really face is that of geographic dispersion.

Now, if people are willing to come, thats a really good thing. If they can't make it for whatever reason, then that's OK too, but when everyone is making an effort to attend, and a lot of people do sacrifice other things for this kind of get-together, then as a group we should try and be as accommodating as possible. Making the events regular, means that people have the ability to be a little flexible, so they don't have to feel obligated to attend every event, lest there be no more.. If they can't make one, then perhaps the next one will suit etc etc.

Also, if members do have other auto-club commitments - as the example provided in Greg's prior post, then we would obviously seek to work in sync with their calendars where possible, to avoid clashing dates for the big events, such as club concours, and cams-sanctioned rally events etc.

What is needed, is for OZBENZ members to enter their location in their user profile in the user control panel. The reason for this is simple.... So we can arrange events that are convenient to peoples location. There is no point in arranging a meet in Bourke if the members are all located within a 5 km radius of sydneys eastern suburbs.

Likewise, what we are trying to do is organize a range of regular meeting points. If members want to organize their own event when there isn't something else on, e.g. meet and have a coffee run etc, then make the meeting point one which is made available to all members, and then any ozbenz member can turn up and go along.

We're looking to setup 2-3 locations within the sydney basin itself, which are mutually convenient to as many people as possible. That way more members can participate in events.

I can't make July 10th, but Saturday 9th would work.
After then, most weekends are free except July 31st.
If it's a date I can make, I think John's suggestion is a good one, probably also talk the Mrs into a day in Sydney.
I reckon such casual days out would benefit from a few more ladies present, it keeps the guys from getting too serious about tech stuff too.
So count me in definitely except 10th and 31st July.
Also give me a chance to show off my newly painted hubcaps (I'll be getting the alloys refinished sometime, then I have a choice of both).

Well that idea died a death did'nt it?
Was it because I suggested bringing the girls along?
Or worse, sporting hubcaps among all those macho alloys?

I will be keen for a regular thing once my car is back up and running again (current engine issues) as the last one was great fun.

It would be a shame to see this fizzle out, so I hope others are keen for another soon.

It did seem to work best when we just nominated a date and those who where available to come did.

Im guilty of a very hectic month, but keen to been involved in another one ASAP.

Cheers

I'll be there just so long as it's not a date with a classic rally or some other club motorsport event I want to attend.

I think it's best just to choose a date or two and see how many say they can attend. With a couple of suggested dates we can go with the one that suits the majority. Obviously if we are meeting at Alex's showroom, it needs to be a date that works for him.

My first post on the site and why not make it a friendly one. Will be watching this thread with interest as keen on getting on the road with some other Mercs and having a chat at other end. Just bought the 560SEC so need an excuse to get out of this Sydney snarl. Shouldn't moan too much, took it for a quick blast down to the Gong for lunch today! It really does make you appreciate (nearly said love then - schoolboy error!) what a difference the open road makes to the enjoyment you get out of the big tanks, and how much fuel you waste on the 20km/h daily run. Anyway, keep me in the loop, and as a novice to the world of suppliers and parts in Sydney and extra's such as bumpers, steering wheels etc from further afield get in touch if you can lead this lost horse to water. Have emailed MB so reckon that's a solid start hey!
