Looks quite interesting with a few good looking classics from around the world.
Something "silver" will also be there............

Went to this event today. I didn't have high expectations and the $20 entry fee seemed a bit steep. However, I was extremely impressed with the quality of the show and considered the $20 well spent.
For those who know of Murray Allen's 190SL (ACT and VIC Concours d'Elegance 2010), or know him personally, you'll be glad to hear that he won the British & European Post War Classic (1946 - 1960) class against some extremely high quality local and overseas vehicles.

There were HEAPS of cars and lots of visitors in the Royal Exhibition Building in Melbourne.

I'll only post photos of the classic MBs on display here. There were a few new ones too - the Linfox McLaren Mercedes and a SLR with SMOSS plates - and a few being auctioned by Shannons that day.

Chai,

At $20 it looks to have been excellent value. Several familiar cars there and nice to read of Murray's win with his stunning 190SL. The indoor venue also means all those classics aren't at the mercy of the weather. Whenever I have visited some of those stunning car collections you are fortunate to have in Melbourne, I have wondered why we don't have anything similar in Sydney.

We have just witnessed the 1st Concours d'Elegance Australia (in Sydney) at St Patrick's Seminary in Manly on the 10th of October.
It has been advertised in every possible magazine, on two major radio stations as well as throughout the Car Clubs.

It was a stunning success with more than 4100 entrants through the gates (not cheap tickets either).

It was modelled on the very successfull Pebble Beach Concours and has received nothing but praise.

Indeed it was worth seeing, as I went also yesterday. Despite deliberately going at the same time as the Shannons auction, thinking a lot of the crowd would be concentrated there...it didn't work and was still very crowded.

I was amazed that 85% of cars were not 'fenced-off' or barricaded. My mate had his 'Cooper Climax' (Bruce McLaren's 'first' race car) displayed, and even he was unaware that there were no barriers, until he collected his car last night.

One of the few people I did see in passing was Patrick Devine, one of the most approachable and knowledgable guys on Gullwings, as he owns the silver, RHD one that was on display. :notworthy:

Michel,

Perhaps I could have worded my post more clearly, although you only quoted half of one of my sentences. Hopefully the whole sentence "Whenever I have visited some of those stunning car collections you are fortunate to have in Melbourne, I have wondered why we don't have anything similar in Sydney" reads as I had intended. I was referring to the likes of the Fox, Hetrel and Dizane car collections in Melbourne, the likes of which I don't believe we have in Sydney.

Days like the Shannons Eastern Creek Classic make us aware of just how big the classic car following is in Sydney. I just don't think we have many (or any) significant collections the likes of those in Melbourne. As only a visitor to Melbourne, I have seen all three of those I mentioned. As a resident of Sydney I have never seen anything similar here.

As to the recent concours d'elegance in Sydney, yes, I was aware of that event. After looking at the list of vehicles entered for judging, the "not cheap tickets" were one of a few reasons for me to decide against attending. At something more like $20, I may have considered it.

Having lived in both Sydney and Melbourne, the reason why Sydney doesn't have the events Melbourne does is that it doesn't have the culture nor class that Melbourne has.

That's not to say it doesn't have it's snobs because Sydney has got more per capita than anywhere else in Australia. The majority of them (Oz Benz Forum Members are exempt from my opions) cannot see past their toffee'd noses and rose coloured glasses let alone pay a measily $20 to view some fine automobiles It might have to come out of the Sherry budget. :boohoo:

Great pics Chai, keep them coming.

Yes, I tend to agree Giles,

It is frustrating here in Sydney that all the Classic Car Shows/Collections that I would like to see are put on or located in Melbourne.

Melbourne does have a habit of doing things differently and perhaps better than Sydney, and having access to these kinds of exhibitions is just one of them.

I believe the classic car culture is alive and kicking in Sydney, but we just don't put it on show enough compared to Melbourne.

There are certainly personalities here that own extensive car collections, like the Fox collection in Melbourne, but choose to hide them away in multi story garages. :boohoo:

But I do like to get down to Melbourne when I can and I need something to go and visit, so not all bad :happy3:
