Team W116 @ Mount Panorama, Bathurst - Easter 2010

Post by SELfor50 » Sun 04 Apr, 2010 7:32 pm

Pics from today..

Scruitneering was the payoff of all the work completed on the car to prepare it. (Thanks again to  @ MB Spares for his assistance - and letting me kidnap one of his mechanics for the weekend).
They did a quick check over, and signed off straight away.

Only did Masters Class today (3 laps at 3/4 pace behind a pace car to instruct the lines/apex of each corner).

Hook into practise and events tomorrow.

Some other interesting entrants also..... However, there is not a single other Benz at the event.

Enjoy! :)

More to come tomorrow.

All good mate, got a heap more pics, will load more up tomorrow. All of the really nice classic race cars finished today generally.. there's some really good ones still there. A couple GT40's (genuine), Mustangs, Valiants etc... Some fully specced Bommadore replicas from specific eras..

I'll be getting the professional photographers to do some nice pics through all the 'good' picture points on the track over the next 2 days.

The esses are un-bloody-believable.... can't be appreciated until you realise that you will need your spare set of underpants that are back in the garage.

Will have in-car video up from tomorrow's sessions.

Thanks Fella's..

My unofficial times from practise were a 3m14s.. but expect about 10secs less today.

I had uploaded a video, but youtube removed it cause it's too long. 28mins.. will have to complete some editing etc, then upload again when I get home.

Cam.

Times are up: All times are Here
My best session is Here

Here's some more pics, the main album is here: Link
Uploaded about 190 more pics, also plenty from the wet session where I took to drifting cause there was no point going times - no entertainment in that.

Also, Irony would have it that the apartment we were staing in at Bathurst motor in... the guys staying next door had selected a great towe vehicle.. Rob has purchased Jammer's old 6.9. And was towing his Alfa race car. I couldn't believe that of all places that could be booked for accomodation in bathurst, the townhouse right next door had a 2nd 6.9 parked. F*kn small world ay.. . 8)

Checked out some of the YouTube footage, very impressed by how flatly it cornered and the performance of the transmission.

Just wondering . . . what was your top speed down Conrod Straight?

I typed a response, and it wigged out...

Anyway, thanks for the props - appreciate it.

Top speed was only about 210kph.. I last checked each time about 205kph or just past..then would prepare for caltex chase.

It has a 3.07:1 diff from a 450 installed with a 6.9 LSD centre. So top speed has been greatly minimized.

Plan has already been set in motion for changes to the gearing for next year (and other events in between). Looking at installing a 6spd manual so that I can retain the same diff and have a 5th and 6th gear OD for top end. Means driveshaft has to go to a 1 piece unit also and get rid of the rubber couplings - which should mean more HP to the ground also!

I was at the event Friday and Saturday, but had to work sunday so missed that day.

The whole FoSC (Festival of Sporting Cars) event is spectacular, but should be better promoted. Even locals didn't realise it was on.
Watching the old Group A and Group C cars was brilliant, aswell as the Genuine D type Jag, Genuine GT40 (the yellow one, was the only legit - but he didn't try to hard) and on Saturday a genuine C type Jag that ended the day being towed back to the pits after making some very expensive sounding engine noises and blowing the most perfect smoke rings from the exhaust.
Have some good photos i'll upload later.

Only two Mercs that i saw, mine, parked at Harris park on show, and another 220S Finny, black with white roof parked with the race cars, he was a mate of one of the racers.

Funny thing was listning to the commentry team on Friday talking about the cars on show in Harris Park and the two of them arguing over which they wanted the most. They decided on the Lotus Elan and my Mercedes. Pretty happy with that :D

Wow awsome!

I am interested in finding some more out about this event.

Was it a sprint meeting or a circuit day (Session of say 20 cars running for 15mins)

What was the entry fee and what level of Cams licene was needed?

Also was it standard track day car set needed?
