'Spot the part' - who wants to play!

Post by CraigB » Sun 28 May, 2017 8:21 pm

I'm trying to clean up and especially trying to get rid of stuff that I don't even know what it is! Long shot here but a lot of you will have sat in a lot of different cars over the years and just maybe you recognise something. I hate throwing stuff out but if i don't even know what the item is it is hard to even give away. This stuff is out of Dad's shed and among parts that I know are from a 48/215 holden and a 57 Customline, Morris Oxford MO and late 40's Studebaker - but i have googled what i can for images related to these. And i can't find any markings on stuff either after a very close look. So here goes

Is the bonnet emblem from a Ford Single spinner - or a 48 Buick ?

good suggestion but been googling since i saw your post and can't find a single spinner with one on it. And of course people used to be more into these things and maybe something aftermarket. That piece bothers me least in finding a home because i quite like the shape of it and can live next to my leaping Whippet one and Amilcar Pegasus.

Thanks - but the only one close was for a '59 ford that i could see and it wasn't round. Looks closer to the Buick ornaments on that page.

That's another interesting site my search engine didn't pick up! Ford 1946 aftermarket option is interesting in its similar style. Also further down "Compco" has same style - I assume that is an aftermarket manufacturer.

It's an aftermarket bonnet ornament. Buick ones were similar but a lot bigger . Girls in the US would get their boyfriends to pinch one and and they would make a big bangle out of them. Bit of a craze in the early 50's. I've seen one of those on a FJ holden actually. i would post some pics on ebay for things like that dome light and door handles under vintage parts. That way a genuine buyer will see them. All diecast door handles pit so buyers expect to have to get them rechromed . look at roundie door handles, even NOS ones are known to be rough.

Thanks Ron - could have been off the 48/215 FX then. I have the bumper overiders off that car on ebay at the moment - honestly described as dents in every one - currently at $82 - if you were trying to make money out of parts your better in holdens than benzes! Thanks for the response
