First speeding ticket after 3 years ...

Post by T-Modell » Sat 12 Aug, 2017 6:52 pm

Hi down under,

after three years they got me again on the Autobahn ... 71 in a 60 zone, no points, 20 Euros. What's interesting is the photo. In Germany you're only allowed to show the driver, so that e. g. the wife cannot see who was with you. But what's the point of such a photo, if I had claimed to my wife to be alone on a business trip? :laughing6: :laughing6:

Regards and have a nice weekend
Thomas

P. S.: It was actually my wife in the car ...

That's it, I'm moving to Germany, get away from this police state. Interestingly with such a low level of enforcement they have a much lower road toll than Australia. So anyone who thinks that speed cameras are about saving lives, look at Northern Europe.

Same in Denmark.

More to the point, the photo also shows exactly where you were located. It is going to be hard to explain how you were on Hamburg's Reeperbahn, when in fact you were supposed to be at a meeting in Potsdam.

That's funny - I always say to my kids "always put yourself in the other persons shoes" - obviously your authorities are doing a bit of that - take the punishment for speeding but don't cause a divorce!

I haven't had a speeding fine for quite a while here but i think ours are closer to $500 here - in fact i paid more than 20 euros for being 2 minutes late back to a parking meter the other day!

Hi Craig,
I got 60 Dollars (2011) for being 5 minutes late at a parking meter in front of a hospital in Melbourne. Australia is so much safer than Germany, it's breathtaking.

In 2006 - on a holiday trip from Melbourne to Sydney - we stopped in Ulladulla (never forget that name!). There was parking (45°) along the main (huge!) road. Didn't know where to go, so I ended up at the last free parking lot, but I reversed in. When we came back, I got a ticket of around 100 AUD for parking in the wrong direction. We found the guy, told him that we were tourists .... no way. Luckily, my "then-girlfriend" (now wife) was working at the city council in Melbourne and found out all the papers to go against it ... I didn't pay in the end.

Is it true, that there are no taxes in Australia, you just pay traffic fines? :laughing6: :laughing6:

P. S.: I wonder in the future (the super company Tesla f. i.), when autonomous driving is allowed: Who pays the speeding ticket, if the sign recognition failed and the car is too fast? Not speaking of morale, e. g. Great Ocean Road, you have the alternative of driving off the cliff or killing a mother and a child ... what does the computer select? If the algorithm selects "driving off the cliff", who would buy a suicidal car?

You gave me another chuckle - what is it with all this order about how to park cars here? I thought Adelaide was the uptight place that gave parking tickets if you park facing the wrong way on a road. UK and I think Germany from memory, as long as you park in a space or the right place why the hell does it matter which way it faces. Doesn't look tidy?!! Where i lived in the UK, travel down the narrow street and see a park on either side and you just pull into it - obviously taking care not to run into moving vehicles etc. Same situation in Adelaide and a park on the other side, you need to keep going, find a point to be able to turn around or do a 3 point turn, put everyone at risk with blind spots etc reversing back and then go up to the park again........ and just to look tidy! You often see interstate plates that will pull in facing the wrong way so figure its not the case interstate. And i thought NSW towns wanted you to reverse in? We don't but that makes sense to me, once again reversing back blindly into traffic instead of sitting looking at the road you are about to pull into to.

And i won't go into the irony of our "national road laws"!

True about our fines, the only thing about that is you have the ultimate form of tax evasion by behaving!

Wow, for 20 euros you can't really claim they are revenue raising! Would barely cover the administrative costs to send you out the fine and process the payment!

Parking tickets here in ADL used to be ok, I remember when I first started at my current job in the city back in 2007 a parking ticket was $19. Now $50 if you're more than 10 minutes over the time limit. Being in a no standing/bike lane/bus zone are upwards of $90.

I was crook a few months ago and had to get to the hospital, the Emergency is the only way to get admitted but there are 5 car parks, so i parked in the street a meter or so over a yellow line and got a $150 ticket . I see the parking bloke there with his scanner every day often just leaning against a fence having a smoke,,, hopefully the fags will give him cancer and he ends up in the hospital. At least we have state run courts, unlike victoria which has the strangest system in the western world.

Hi down under,

it's not my year ... three weeks ago in Ludwigshafen, 50km/h, four lanes, nobody around ... they got me on a Monday morning with a smashing 57 km/h while driving to the drive shaft company to extend and balance the drive shaft ... so this part of the ute is 15 Euros more expensive.

In the old days with films, developing, printing etc. it was just too expensive to send tickets for that price ... these days with digital imaging it's just become too cheap :laughing6:

You're going crazy down under :banghead: ... obviously it's more important in Melbourne in a 40-zone to be concentrated on your speedometre than on pedestrians, kids, etc. Even a modern cruise control has some slack regarding the speed.

Which human being is capable of driving 40 without +/- 5km/h? Unfortunately that's my experience too in Melbourne, when I was driving there. Concentrate on the speedo, but driving without lights in heavy rain at 100km/h with 5 metres distance to the car in front ...

Regards
Thomas

P. S.: The recorded speed of that ticket was 60km/h; three km/h tolerance. When I saw the flash, the needle was just above 60km/h ...

Very controversial Thomas. Design specs give a 10% leeway for speedo error but TPTB just ignore this.
Then you have new tyres vs worn down tyres etc.

Mate has a new GLC coupe. It's near impossible to drive at 40kph. Lucky it's got head up display. His CLS was the same.
However same man really needs spectacles. Vanity prevents him from wearing (he's a menace).

Our local mayor had great delight in convincing the roads department to place a blanket 24 hour 40kph limit around our local area. 40K would have been alright past the local shopping strip but not 24 hours. The outlying streets would be fine for 50k.
I had a go at her last time there were council elections. That proved fruitless as she was voted out and now we have a Green :angryfire:

There are more an more 40K zones going in. A lot of ridiculous locations.

Well,
we're more advanced ... we have 30 zones  ... more or less our whole city here is a 30 zone incl. radar control.

I still have my first Oz speeding ticket, second visit in 1998 ... 72 in a 60 zone, just 80 Dollars (ridicilous in those days already, compared to Germany). The money transfer from Hong Kong to Oz nearly cost me an extra 80 dollars :laughing6:
