Post by liquidforce » Tue 08 Jul, 2014 2:16 pm

Hi everyone.
I have an import SL350 R230 which I love.
Can anyone tell me if its easy to upload Aussie maps on it?
I have found these http://jku.com.au/2014-mercedes-map-dvd ... 00-00.html
but the price is a bit cheap.
Dealer wants $760 for it but when I told them its an import they said they cannot help :(
Please help

Perhaps give them a call?

The website says they do installation Australia-wide, so if you get them to install it and it doesn't work you could ask for a refund. You'd obviously have to tell them you had an import first though.

I can't search from work but there are a number of dark corners on the internet where you would possibly be able to find this data for free. Burn your own DVD and give it a try. I'll check up on it tonight and get back to you if I remember. Happy to help you with getting it sorted if I can find the right data.

Places that sell this kind of thing for well below OEM prices often find the data themselves on the net, change one or two slight things, and then whack their own name on it. It's really common and easy to get scan tool software for almost any car from China, for example. They even make their own versions of the hardware sometimes.

Just rang them now and they informed me that the DVDs are genuine Mercedes but the price is cheaper as they buy direct from Germany and in bulk

What is bad news is that the maps wont work on UK import as its not thinking its in Australia. The conversion takes them a day and $1500 to do.

Rang my Mercedes dealer who said it is impossible to do and I have to replace the complete Navigation System at $16000. Bollox

With regards to dark corners I would much rather have a genuine DVD and stay away from illegal sources.
My work colleague has an imported S5 and trying to convert it from some gps forum he managed to brick his unit and not nothing works.
He was quoted $1500 by the forum member somewhere in Lithuania to repair the unit for him. Strangely its the same bloke who put the update on another forum.

I am simply scared of bricking my unit, that's all. $16000 exercise is a bit steep though through stealer.

Damn, that sucks!

I guess you could probably get a whole assembly unit somewhere cheaper such as a wreckers?

Good luck!

I have booked myself for Saturday with the euro car upgrades on the sunny coast.
Higghly unlikely the wreckers will have R230 just sitting there with nav inbuilt.
If they do, they will want some big $$ for it.
Will keep you posted.

update on my pommie conversion at euro car upgrades:
My UK unit has been converted by the mob on the Sunshine Coast Yesterday.
Dropped the car off at 9, picked it up at 4, paid $1650 and got 2014 maps DVD with it
No more miles on the speedo as well and consumption shows in l/100km which is a bonus

now I need some parts for my W126 coupe SEC. This will be a big project
