Is it just me??? Different planet??

Post by Chefklasse » Sun 25 Nov, 2012 12:19 pm

Hey there - inally close to the end of tunnel after a full respray and more ...   on the W 126

I have decided to upgrade the 560s stereo system while the whole rear interior is out......
I did read the thread on the speaker upgrade and subwoofers etc ....so far so good.....and I thought to myself (being an engineer myself) its common sense to install some of these noise reduction mats. I then went out this week to get that dampening / insulation mat at the local Autobarn/SuperC$ap?/Bunnings ....

These jokers :jokercolor: telling me that a STARTER SET for one !!!!!!! door is 130$........ :jokercolor:
Research on (f)leabay and others indicate same ridiculous prices......

A builder told me to probably use Melthoid (or similar ) which was used on the underside of the kitchen sinks to reduce the drumming effect ....

Any ideas or suggestions ......

Did you look into Dynamat, there's various types for different applications. A friend of mine fits this product to a lot of Volkswagens (old school, not new models) in his trimming business and it makes a big difference.

Hj there,
I suggest you go to your local or nearest supplier of lagging and insulation and have a look
at their range of products..
I had to provide sound insulation to the engine space of a luxury power boat and found they
had the ideal product after consulting them.
cheers
JM

YEP...they are these :joker:

I am not spending 130 $ per door on that sort of &%^$$%$% ! :angryfire:

When I finally get a cushy govie job with all its perks and self-running 20% wage increase every month I will look into it..... :rr:

That it improves a VW low quality feel and ride makes perfect sense to me ...
I had to live with a Tiguan last year for 7 months and I was not impressed ..... (cheap rubbish like a Chrysler Daimler)

Any other advice around???

Drop in to a Panel Beater.

They should be able to buy it in bigger bulk and sell to you for a decent price.
