1991 190E Steerign Wheel too big

Hi,
Looking at changing the airbag steeriong wheel on my 190E to something smaller.

Previous, and original owner was just over 5ft and had some adjustment when the car was new so she could drive comfortably - I assume the seat was either raised or the wheel lowered.
On the USA forum they discuss Sporttsline wheels being 10 or 20mm smaller, whioch would be perfect, but there are not many around in Australia.
They also discuss W202 and W124 steering wheels being 390mm diameter whioch woudl be perfect, I think mine is 410mm.

Anyone done a swap ?? Needs to be cheap , like a wrecker part, or not really worth it as only a minor irritant really. Need the horn to work too, which appears to be a possible issue.

thanks

190 steering columns are mounted low. It was noted in Wheels Magazine (Peter Robinson, I think around March 1985) in its first Australian test. Also noted was the large steering wheel diameter and how they both contributed to interior space compromises.

I thought the later models had smaller steering wheels but that may be just the leather wrapped versions eg on 190E 2.6

The seat should have height adjustment. If it has it there will be a handle on the right of the seat base (between seat and door), same shaped handle as the one that allows you to slide the seat back and forth. Lift the handle (while seated) and slide forward to raise the seat or rearwards to lower. If the seat is too high and already back near the rear of its travel, use the normal slide release handle (at the front of the seat base) and slide the seat forwards first, then lift the handle on the side and move the seat back again to lower.

If it hasn't been used in years it may be stiff and the rails may require greasing.

Which state are you located? Would help members who might be able to help you with a steering wheel.

Hi TMR,
Im in Melbourne but will probably buy another steering wheel from Ebay.
Seat is definitely in the lowest position, just that wheel is too big.

Have read that W124 and W202 wheels fit, although some have problems with the horn contact ring compatibility.

Interested in if anyone with a W201 has sussesfully fitted a smaller steering wheel.

Thanks

My 2.6's steering wheel is smaller? How big are the ones on the fours?!
