Drivers side door lock fault

Post by datzed » Tue 05 Dec, 2017 10:46 am

Drivers side door lock doesn't allow you to turn the key to central lock. Passenger side works, as does the boot.
So I'm assuming the door lock mechanism is faulty. Any idea where I can get a new one apart from wreckers?

If you have a healthy bank balance you could try the $tealer$hip.
Have you taken the door card off to check it out? By disconnecting linkages you should be able to identify if it is the lock or something else causing the problem.

Hi Tony,

I am yet to inspect the lock which I'm hoping to do this weekend. I might also try the forum sponsor to see if they have spares. This is a bit of a PITA.

Hi datzed, have you taken a door card off before? If not, before pulling it straight out, you must lift the card up to disengage the hooks on its back from the inner door panel slots. Otherwise you will either snap the hooks or rip them off the card. Major PITA. attached is a photo of the same hooks on a W124 card that I have in my garage. As I recall, a W201 door card has the hooks along the bottom and across the middle, same as the W124.
If needed, I have a door lock in good condition off a well-maintained 1988 Series 2 190E - taken off the road after rear end damage. I can also supply a key but other forum members may know if its possible to get the lock reset to match your original lock.

gjlockyer, thanks kindly for your advise and supplied picture (I haven't taken the door cards off before so your advise is appreciated). Once I confirm the door lock issue, I'll send you a PM about the spare you have :)
