W204 Glow plug light

Post by us6owner »

Recently my 2008 C220 cdi glow plug light has started coming on about 10 seconds after starting and remaining on for approx. one minute, glow plug or control issue? Any tips on fault finding appreciated.

Glow plug lamp staying on after starting the engine means that 1 or more GP are faulty. Find GP relay, remove the big plug (it will have 4 contacts for 4 cylinder and 5 for 5 cylinder engine). Use multimeter on Ohms range and test from ground to each of the contacts in the cable connector. Most likely 1 or 2 will have a high resistance compared with the others. Identify faulty GPs from the labeling of the contact sockets on the plug housing (I need a magnifying lenz to see the numbers). Replace the faulty GPs and the GP lamp will go out on starting.
