Uncomfortable Seats

I find the seats in my 2003 C200k Elegance rather uncomfortable after a couple of hours into a trip. They feel quite firm on the bottom and the lack of lumbar support makes for a sore lower back after a while. The seat comfort surprised me on this car because my previous 280SE and 300SE were "all day" travellers.

Has anyone fitted some other seat or modified the seats to make them more comfortable?

My '96 W202 seats are much more supportive than my W210.
I have a support pillow behind my back when driving the W210.

There are a few examples on you tube which show you how to pull you seat section apart and add extra foam tubing to your seat if your chasing extra lumbar for example.

Thanks for the replies. I am also using a cushion as a lumbar support at the moment but I do like the idea shown on one of the Youtube videos of dropping the back panel of the seat and inserting a blow-up support. Might give that a go!

I suppose getting an E class set of buckets from a wrecker might also be worth considering but would they fit and would that bring up an airbag light on the dash?

These stores below are your friend.
Pull both your seats out of the car and then remove the leather covers and see what is going on under them
You may just need some extra padding added to improve the comfort at very minimal cost.
Check the spring wire to see if any have broken and if so that is an easy fix with a bit more wire and some same hire tensile wire and small wire clamps from Bunnings
Sometimes adding some foam blocks (cut to shape) around the outer perimeter of the frame seat base will also improve the feel of the seat - especially on the outer edges when getting in and out of the car.
But as a DIY it is a simple and very low cost fix
If not confident as a DIY then actually take the seats to an Auto trimmer shop and they can easily sort it out as don't have the cost of removing and re-fitting the seats and can whip the covers off very quickly if you have not already removed them yourself.

I had a bit of time today so I undid the two screws from the bottom of the upright of the drivers seat and removed the back cover. It simply pulls off which is easy enough, but was quite surprised and disappointed by the lack of thickness in the back padding of the seat. I reckon a piece of toast has more body.
Anyway I removed a spring holding the support grill/grating to the side of the seat and worked an old piece of 50mm thick foam I had lying around the garage in between the padding and the grill just to try it out. Made all the difference to the lumbar area. :dance:
So tomorrow I will get some high density foam from Clarke Rubber and pad out the lumbar area of both seats. I am certain this will solve the problem I have with long distance trips.
