C180 2000 - Wont start, no crank over was fine before being

Post by rs_666 » Sat 21 Jan, 2017 3:08 pm

Hi

I've searched so sorry if i missed any topics the same.

The car was starting fine, I drove it and parked and when I returned the car unlocked from the key fob but when turning the key there was nothing no starter crank, click or anything and nrma confirmed the battery is charged.

We have checked all the relays and changed the key battery.

Would appreciate any assistance as I was told it may be the transmission inhibitor switch, When the car is in reds and put in reverse the reverse lights don't come on and I'm not sure if this is normal. Also tried starting from neutral with no change.

Appreciate any and all input from people who have experienced or fixed the same issue.

I had something similar in my C250 Turbodiesel.
I put the electronic key in the lock and nothing happened. Normally the steering will unlock and the key will be able to be turned.

This was simple to fix, the 'door' which covers the key receptacle of the lock was jammed open. When this was released, everything worked correctly. I believe my mechanic used some lubricant on the 'door'. The problem has not occurred since.

Can you move the gear lever to Neutral or is it "stuck" in Park. Is the dash indicating that the vehicle is actually in P or is it blank?

Just re read your post. Don't guess. Buy yourself an ICAR 2 MB diagnostic scanner (ebay). Worth every cent. Plug it in under dash near bonnet lever and obtain read outs and error codes. Look up MB error codes on the web and it will point straight at your problem. Good luck mate. This can cause many sleepless nights.
