Mercedes branded Fuel flter failures

I have recently had issues with MB branded fuel filters in our W202 C250s, they have a hard plastic piece separating the fuel from the tank from the filtered fuel going to the lift pump. On 2 occasions, these been found to have the hard plastic ring broken, causing unfiltered fuel to go to the IP.

I am now using Cooper brand filters which have a nitrile rubber seal to prevent mixing filtered and unfiltered fuel.

Has anyone here had a similar experience with these filters?

Got picture of them? I should be able to identify the original manufacturer?

I would guess that they could be Ryco filters, as they use the Z series numbers for their filters.

Nope, It would be a GUD Z270 fuel filter.

Here is a comparison of filters from Hengst, Cooper, Mann and of course the one from MB.

The Mann is on the top right and is new, but for a OM617,
The used Hengst is top left and came off an OM603,
The used Cooper is bottom left, is for an OM605, as is the MB branded one

Looking up the manufacturer part number (Z270), I found that GUD have this part no for their OM60x series fuel filters.

The deal where MB assemble cars in RSA is where they get certain tax concessions so long as they used a certain amount of product that is made in RSA. Over the years I have seen various RSA made parts and they are never the same as the German parts. Sad, but true.
