Buying advice for C250

Postby benzage » Sun 02 Apr, 2017 8:49 pm

Hi everyone

I am looking at purchasing a 2012 C250 sedan and was hoping to get some advice on any notable things to look out for during inspection.

Even some general info and feedback from current or previous owners on the C250 would certainly be valuable.

Many thanks in advance

(a) Make sure service records are up to date.
(b) Check service records to make sure injectors have been changed (if you are looking at a C250 diesel).
(c) make sure you get a scan done.
(d) be aware of the major depreciation.

others may chime in.

More important is the test drive. Check for transmission shifts smoothe both up and down. Check dash display for any error codes, watching closely on start-up. Beware of ANY aftermarket fittings from wheels through to multimedia, nothing works as well as original MB kit does, nothing.

Thanks for your prompt replies guys, much appreciated

I'm looking at the C250 petrol model, sorry - should have mentioned that in my first post.

Just regarding the scan, what exactly is this?
Where can I get it done?
I'm guessing it's a diagnostic scan of some sort?

I would like a mechanical inspection prior to purchase, can anyone recommended a MB specialist in Sydney?

Thanks again

Diagnostic scan can be done by any competent mechanic, though an M-B specialist would be the choice of course.

It's already been mentioned, but make sure servicing has been done. Gearbox is to be serviced once only at 3years or 50,000km which often gets missed on the grounds of cost. Plugs and air filter are 4yrs/75,000km...

Thanks Scorpio for your informative reply.

Just on the servicing side of things:

What brands/types are recommended for -

Oil filter
Fully synthetic oil
Spark plugs

Could you also recommend any MB specialists in Sydney to carry out a mechanical inspection and servicing that use OEM parts?

Cheers

Can't help you with a specialist in Sydney as in in Perth.

For oil filters I'd stick with Mann-Filter (who supply M-B for the genuine filters), Hengst, Mahle or Knecht.

For plugs, I'd say Bosch or NGK.

For oil, any decent brand really - so long as it is 5w-30 and meets the Mercedes-Benz 229.51 spec. M-B use Fuchs GT1 Pro Flex, alternatively there are products from Castrol, Penrite etc that also meet the spec.

Get the timing chain checked by a MB specialist.

These engines have been known to have weak timing gear.
