I've only been a front passenger in a W204 and found the seat smaller than ideal and the seat belt buckle too low and obstructed by the centre bin/armrest, so not sure if it's ideal for taxi passenger duties, imho.
Yep, spotted a recent/last model C200 Taxi today in North Road, Ormond near my place...bizarre...never seen a MB taxi in Melbourne before..wonder if it is the same one ?

Spotted this beast in the airport valet whilst waiting for my car last night. S65 Brabus sporting the plate S65BRA white with blacked out grill etc, looked mean :love4:

Stacks of them in Brisbane, and most a very late model because of the 6 year rule here. No old police cars or second hand cars are allowed to be used as taxis and none over 6 years.

Yesterday I spotted a blue grey metallic W124 in the Brighton Le Sands area. It was the dirtiest car I have seen in a long time. I've seen a lot cleaner 'barn finds'!

Surprisingly it was also remarkably straight.

I too have noticed numerous shabby 124s around recently. I remember seeing a white 220E in a shopping centre car park with rust in the lower left corner of the rear screen surround so advanced that the bottom of the C-pillar was no longer attached to the rear quarter panel. More recently I saw another grubby 124 driving in traffic that had more hits than Elvis. I can only assume that with 124 values about as low as they can go, many owners have lost interest in maintaining them.

In stark contrast to my earlier post about the grubby 124, I saw an absolutely pristine white 210 along the Grand Parade, Kyeemagh this morning. It was so remarkably clean and straight that it made me realise just how grubby they usually look these days.
Cheers,

I know this is OT, but I saw a beautiful blue-green Lamborghini Jarama in the industrial area of Katoomba today. Must be one of the least photogenic cars ever made. Stunning in the flesh.

I was following a white early W124 with Victorian rego plates this morning. Nothing especially unusual about that except it was a 200. Not even an injected 200E but just an absolute base model carby fed 200. The W124 with 2 litre M102 was not sold here and seeing this car had me wondering why someone would go to the effort of importing one. I could understand someone wanting to import something like a 500E or even a 400E, but why a 200?

Back in 1997, when I was in the market to buy a W123, I came across a w123 200 and had the same thought. It was sitting in the back of one of those used car lots on Parramatta road, looking rather sorry for itself. Equipped with an Auto, it must have been a leisurely ride to 100km/h.

I had a manual 200 123 as my first Merc, went pretty well as long as you kept the revs up but was a thirsty beast. Was ex South Africa and rusty as.

Sorry no pics as I was driving the truck and we're all on our best behaviour for a while
Anyway coming up Shepards Hill Rd this arvo I saw a 124, yeah big deal, a minute later another 124 went by, hmmnh that's a little unusual, little further on saw a lovely 123 (in that dark metallic sort of paint, very shiny) well there you go three old Mercs in the space of a few minutes but wait, just past the round about I spot a 126 and an Atego (hey it's a Merc), the sunshine must bring them out?

Took the family out for a nice afternoon drive and saw Hobbes' diesel twin (they are even both 1981's!). Had to stop for a photo op. The owner came out and almost got into our car. She gave my wife a befuddled look, wondering why these people were in her car, until she realized what was going on. That was funny!

David, I think you might recognise this one. Yes, it's still alive and kicking.

Driving home from Canberra to Sydney late today, I spotted a Series 3 124 approaching from behind on the Hume Highway. As it passed me in the right lane I realised it was a cabriolet and after it passed I could read the boot badge as an E220. So what you may ask? Well this would have to be one of the roughest 124s I have ever seen. The paint was dull and the panels dented. At the front one of the blinker lamps was missing completely. Amazing to think that a cabriolet that was usually purchased by an enthusiast at considerable cost could end up looking so neglected.

I love this colour scheme. I first saw it on a 1949 Buick Convertible about 40 years ago.

In Melb last few days and felt I was being stalked. Every where I looked there was a 107... They must have been very popular in Melb :dontknow:
Also good to see they are being used as daily drivers

Spotted this SEC380 outside my local gym. It's parked there a few days a week and it's great to see its used as a daily driver not a garage queen!!
image.jpg
I also started thinking I need to find a cheaper gym as the car park is starting to look a little rich for me....
image.jpg
There is also a standard C63 and a CLA45 parked in the street

Then there was this beast the other day

I know not an MB but fantastic supercar

Yesterday in Orrong Road, Armidale....A Diamond Blue 124 E300 Diesel sedan with it's original rego FIA.....so probably a late 1993 model. I've not seen many late 124 Diesels in Melbourne

On my way to work I have the pleasure of sitting still on Citylink most mornings.

For a while now I've been seeing a dark blue W123 CE going outbound almost every day (I assume 280 but can't see the back). I think the rego is IX9 something.

Makes me both happy and sad:
- Happy to see one being used daily.
- Sad because my TE is languishing in the garage with sticky brakes due to lack of use :(

That CE you see everyday is me, IX-9999 and yes it is a 280. Until this year, the CE was mainly a weekend car as I used other modes of transport, but this year I have clocked up over 10k Klms and the car is just purrrrrrrring.... Hope you get your TE going again soon !

Parking my 190E Sportline in my usual spot in the carpark at work yesterday, I had an E250 next to me on one side and a new A250 in front. Before I had walked away from my car, a 300E parked in the vacant spot on the other side of my car. Its driver said that he may as well park in good company.

I had spoken to this 300E owner previously after noticing the stunning condition of his car. It is one of those "time-warp" cars. A very early 300E in white with dark red interior that has travelled very low kilometres and still presents in almost showroom condition. Being a very early example of a W124 delivered to Australia, it lacks features such as leather steering wheel, sunroof and ABS that became standard on most delivered here.

The "time warp" 300E was there again this morning so I couldn't help admiring its great condition and having a look through the windows. Then I spotted part of the reason for its almost showroom condition. Less than 65,000km on the odometer in one of the earliest W124s delivered to Oz.

This evening I ran a few errands around the Sutherland Shire and spotted a metallic blue Finny with white walls, not once, not twice, but three times as I went from one place to the next.

It looked very crisp!
Cheers,

Coming home late from work tonight out of the Burnley Tunnel/Monash Freeway, a white Pagoda with Kxx-280, period and model correct plates....just shows my CE must be too modern for his tastes, I didn't even get a nod or wave

Why do people spoil the lines of those lovely sl cars by putting a spoiler on the boot (no pun intended).

Because it was standard unless you opted for "no spoiler" when you ordered. You see the trunk lid has no handle, so the spoiler came off factory. Mine has the option "no spoiler", so a chrome handle is installed:

That spoiler first appeared on the 107.026 (450SLC 5.0 and then 500SLC) for motorsport homologation purposes and, along with the spoiler under the front bumper, was about function (increased downforce and reduced drag) rather than appearance. It subsequently followed either as an option or standard equipment on later 107 models. As Thomas points out, the lack of chrome handle indicates standard fitment from the factory. The presence of both spoiler and handle as sometimes seen indicates subsequent fitment by an owner.

Greg,

to my knowledge it was never an option to order the spoiler. It was standard for the 5.0, 500SLC, 500SL and 560SL except you ordered "no spoiler". People added it in the 80s because it looked cool and trendy. When you read the original brochure, the spoiler of the 500SL wasn't even mentioned, not even in the specs. You could just see it on the photos.
