This has to be fake!

Post by RF62 » Thu 14 Dec, 2017 12:04 am

Hi,

Just saw this set of E class wheels on eBay: https://goo.gl/Xk9bxN .$400 doesn't even cover two tyres, let alone the whole set!

I suspect this ad is an example of illegal counterfeit wheels imported to Australia: https://goo.gl/vnTXNQ. But on the other hand, I hope that I am wrong!

What do you think?

If they can advertise and sell fake wheels easily, then something is wrong! :protest:

Bad gutter rash says something. Unlikely to be imported copies, but you never know

Damaged rims with used tyres. Actually sounds expensive to me. You will find heaps of 16" and 17" rims around, which have been taken off when larger diameter rims have been fitted. We recently brought a Ford Everest and started to look for a spare set rim so we can run off road and standard tyres, found a set done 200kms and no marks for $350.00.

I've dealt with thus seller before.
He operates out of his house in Balwyn.

He has lots of wheels - BMW, MB, Audi usually. Mostly genuine.
He gets his wheels from tyre dealers, wreckers or stealerships.

Here's the thing.
The wheels he sells are for a very limited market. They normally only fit the original models.
I was contemplating changing the 17 inch staggered wheels on my W204 for 16 inch with a higher profile tyre.
This seller has some nearly new W204 16 inch rims with 90% tyres - $400.00. The thing is that they are an offset which can hardly be used by any other car except a W204.

Those wheels in the listing are original E Class coupe C207 wheels. Have a look at the offset. Front 45, rear 49 with 235 and 255 tyres
What would you put them on?
W211 - E240
W204 - C280
W210 - E240
Departed
W202 - C200, C180, C180
W126 - 380SE , 380SE (Ex SA Import), 560SEL
W124 - 300e, 260e (ex Japan)
W111 220s (Indonesia) 4 speed manual column shift
W123 230
W116 450SEL
W140 420SEL
W210 E240
W209 CLK 240
W201 190e 2.6 (ex U.K.)

Nice to know it was genuine! However, the price looks very low, especially with the 90% tyres on them! Of course, this should be a good thing! :laughing6:

About the offset, you are absolutely right! But I bet there are enough W204 owners out there in need of new tyres. And if they buy this set (even just for tyres), they'll take home some relatively decent rims for free!

Because the C207 E Class is based on the W204 those wheels will probably fit. I have staggered 17 inch wheels on my W204 they have 225 front 245 rear.
most likely the extra 10mm would fit. Although - I.M.H.O. those wheels the man is selling are pretty ordinary - although they are much easier to clean than my wheels
They'll go on a W212 or a W140. (W140 would require the special bolts)

Here's a picture with my W204 staggered wheels on the W210.
Image
The wheels are front ET47 rear ET58 front tyres 225 rears 245.
They fit and don't rub - ..........just :drunken:
I doubt if the 235 and 255's would fit and not rub.
You would never get a Roadworthy with those tyres and wheels.

Those wheels of your are very nice! :glasses2: There are some products you can spray on them, then they don't get dirty quickly; also, cleaning becomes easier. Of course, I'm sure you're aware if those products.
