Steering Play

Hi all,
I have just had my 1973 SLC 450 in to have the steering play checked out. The drag link and inner tie rod were replaced (as well as a wheel alignment). I thought that this would take up the play in the steering wheel but alas whilst it has improved there is still significant play (about 25-35 mm).
As the mechanic said there was still the possibility that this was coming from the box itself.
Is it possible to adjust the play in the steering box (and if so how???)
And could it be anything else causing the problem from the box up to the steering wheel?

Worth checking that the steering box mounting bolts are done up tight. One day my old 114 had almost 90 degrees of play each direction and this was found to be the (unusual) problem.

On the W123 the Steering box is adjustable, there is also a rubber disc between the column and the steering box which could be perished.
I assume that this is true for most of the pre: 2000 Mercedes Benz'
