A note about recommending services / businesses

Post by AMG » Tue 14 Jun, 2011 5:48 pm

Dear OZBENZ Members,

This sticky is a guideline for members who are seeking advice / recommendations from other forum members about various services required when maintaining your vehicles.

Please note: OZBENZ is not liable for any recommendation made by a forum member.

You should use whoever YOU think will do good work. You need to have a good working relationship with any mechanic you choose, so go and ask them questions before you drop your car off, if that is what concerns you.

Regarding recommendations:

from the perspective of OZBENZ, the administrators need to make this abundantly clear to all members:

Members should always be aware that 'recommendations' are just like your own opinions..... just because a place has a good reputation or has done work for another member, doesn't guarantee that your own expectations will be met. You are relying on someone else's opinion of what qualifies as equal in your own interpretation. Difficult to gauge without having some experience.

The decision to accept someone else's recommendation is one you have to undertake on your own - and if you act on that recommendation, you also accept ownership of the associated risk. It is your decision after all.

If someone has a bad experience through recommendations provided by others, do not seek to blame others on the forum for a choice based upon someone elses recommendation. You simply cannot guarantee the person working on your car is the same person that did work on another members vehicle.

Over time, businesses change many things - employees, parts, service offerings and hourly rates. Do NOT expect to receive the same price for services quoted to someone else, as every vehicle is different, and what constitutes a 'job' is not necessarily the same for every vehicle, or what is agreed between the person offering the service and their customer.

Prices Change. if someone posts a price for item A, and you see that post 3 years later, do not expect to pay the same price. For all you know, the part may not be manufactured by the same manufacturer, or even available as a spare part. Some parts become expensive over time, as they are no longer being manufactured.

Members should also be aware they should not recommend a company / persons services without having experienced said service, and having been completely satisfied, be able to provide factual testimony to the work performed.

The forum is here to provide Members with information... That information is provided free and without liability. It is solely your own decision as to whether or not you choose to use that information in making your own decision.

OZBENZ welcomes members who provide positive feedback regarding localized service offerings - It is these localized references which enable all OZBENZ members to benefit from a high standard of workmanship and a degree of care and attention to the work performed. Understand that your references also generate income and goodwill to businesses that you recommend, so only make a recommendation if you can be sure the work can be performed reliably and the person performing that work can be trusted to work with the same care and diligence on another person's vehicle.
