That's pretty funny - made me laugh. For a fraction of that you could find an original becker and it makes better noises too. But i guess if your data card doesn't have a radio and you need to get it right...... The really hard part is finding original 1960's compressor air to put in the tyres!

Judging the photos of just the console area, I'm not sure the whole car would be worth that.

That looks like a piece from another car with a boot badge stuck on it .And it's broken on one end which is why he only wants $650 for it.

The radio blank-out plate emblems are quite a bit smaller than boot badges. The 250CE badge would be particularly rare in the US, since that model wasn't offered there, and this emblem was only found on cars that were ordered without a radio. I found one a couple of years ago for my car, which was still in the original MB packaging. I thought $40 was a good deal, but I'm not sure I would have paid much more. To be honest, in the past 4 1/2 years that I have owned my coupe, this one on ebay is only the second one I've ever seen for sale. A bit steep, though (comically so).

Maybe the ad title is a misprint. Down towards the end it reads "This Mercedes-Benz ML500 Luxury is exceptional value at $9888. This car has been certified as roadworthy.

Price is negotiable, 9888 including RWC. I am willing to keep this car if the price is not satisfied.
."

That seems a little more reasonable.

Ahh yes, figured I couldn't afford it so didn't click the read more button.... The same typo is also repeated a second time in the description.

Seller wants $319K for a 88 560SL. Seller has provided very little information to back up claim vehicle has done 32K, no details of vehicle provenance, service history, etc.

If you want a floor shift set, see here:

Unfortunately he does not have the matching gearbox though...it melted in the fire.

I'm pretty sure Davide will get the hundred bucks, it's not like you can just get one anywhere. Hardly a "tell him he's dreamin" ask.

Try getting a shifter for a 201/124/129 dogleg 5 speed and see the asking price without linkage rods start at 6x that price.

NLA is NLA - and money talks.

My apologies, I did not mean it this way. I think it is worth 100 aud and actually sent Davide a message. But because he did no longer have the gearbox it fell through.
I was just showing there was a floor shifter available.

guess that you need to be "on" facebook.
not this little fella.
Q? Why would anyone (in their right mind) allow a multinational to monitor their behaviour?

Multinationals (eg Google and others) currently monitor most internet traffic. Supermarkets monitor your shopping. EBay and Gumtree monitor what you click on.
So if you think that by not participating in FB, you are not being monitored, then think again.
FB is a tool to keep in contact with the people who are important to you. Watch what you write, watch what you click on and minimise any identifying information that you post.
Many of the people who I keep in contact with only use FB, Twatter, etc. Others use email only, some only use analogue communications (phone / paper)
Those who use analogue are the only ones whose internet usage is not monitored, only because they do not have the internet!
Life is a journey, with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all, experiences to enjoy.

Yeah, slightly OT that one.

anyway, back to our regular programming:

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/norwood ... 1126696510

The seller is asking nearly 40K for a 280S.

Okay, fair enough you might say, but then goes on to mention "spent 30K on resto, the rest is original...."

and then mentions it has a Weber carby conversion.

Now, I'm sorry if people 'don't get it' but your car's not "original" when it has a carby conversion - and because the asking price is right up there, I'd take the seller to task - regardless of whether or not the weber conversion is "better" - the fact is it's not original, and that is a LOT of money for a 280S.

Listing was created in Oct 2016. He's got a snowballs chance of selling car at this price, especially as he has not included any provenance, e.g. service history, restoration photos. If you're going to make a claim, you spent X amount on the car, please tell the audience what you've done.

hold the phone, I think I have found the most delusional MB seller in Australia...

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1988-Mercede ... rmvSB=true

Get fudged. That's 190SL / W111 V8 cabrio territory. Even the most expensive 560 SL's from the most expensive seller (CTS et al) are under $100k. Also, for $300k you'd think you could hold the camera the right way... :bs:

Zero feedback though so always the possibility it's a scammer. Maybe we should all be reporting the listing...

Shannons sold an nice 88 560SL on Monday night for $95K. I saw it in person, it looked to be in very good condition and think the mileage was under 150K. Market prices seem to range from 80-100K.

Very much dreaming if he thinks he can get that price. When looking at it I came across this..

Probably a known vehicle but are those pics at the sponsors workshop?

Friend of mine over here who owned 3 x 560SL's recently decided to sell two of them off (Burgundy and white one) and keep the red one.
Both sold very quickly to interstate buyers for well over $100k each

Not sure on the price but the pics seem consistent with the stated k's. Looks clean and tidy....but why put it on gas and then sell?????

Back seats have that fresh look but the base of the drivers seat looks a bit well used. Its an old car though - maybe if it has been sitting for years and dried out and then sat on quite a bit just recently it would look like that maybe?

Hard to tell from photos, but condition looks to be consistent with odometer reading. Only question I have, is why convert to LPG when car has been used so sparingly. If it is original, LPG conversion somewhat spoils originality. I was in the same conundrum when inspecting a lovely 1970 Jensen Interceptor, as one of the owners converted to LPG and removed petrol tank. Given how sparingly I would have used car, I would have converted back to petrol.

Maybe owner is watching, just like the W201 Sportline thread, lol.

Sill carpets are differant colour left and right.
Drivers floor carpet differant colour and bad heel mark .
B pillar trims missing
Front seats sagged with internal structure to hold pleats in right spot damaged
And thats not the original seats for the car. These are seats from a generation 2 W123 10/79>>>>>
Wear on key in ignition is not 19000k
wear on shifter knob same story
Black paint under front bar?
Wrong radio
Dash cracked and instrument cluster, etc, etc.
Been painted, data tag differant shade to radiator support.

Look at rear seats and colour scheme on this car to see what I mean

https://www.carsales.com.au/private/det ... 3833/?Cr=2

Still a nice neat car and most likely a very economical daily driver, but not 19k. My interest in exposing this sort of thing is I am the guy who has to deal with the sucker who believes this and then brings it into us only to be let down...

One test drive will tell.

Older Mercs hold up well. My W114 felt great in 2003 with close to half a million km under its wheels. But it was nothing like a 12 y.o 420SEL with 49,000km. And not because they are diferent models. Another 12 yo 420SEL at the time with 290,000 km felt remarkably similar to my car.... the steering, number 1, the seats number 2, and the takeup when putting in drive number 3, and some elements of the ride number 4. The low mileage 420 made me undrstand what a factory fresh car felt like. Even now, that same 420 feels new...again due to low mileage and plenty of servicing.

Sharper eye than mine John and possibly i would have seen more if i enlargened the photo. I have a suspicion that this is a car that was for sale about a year or so ago in Adelaide and there was discussion on here. No time to look for it and was probably just a link to an advert that would now be gone. A mate of mine from Melbourne was ready to just buy it sight unseen because of the low mileage "doesn't matter what is wrong, at that mileage (and i think asking price was something like $8K)..... these opportunities only come up so often and you have to be quick..." something like that he said to me and i spotted various things in photos that made it dubious. What makes you think the speedometer hasn't been dismantled?

This is all just memory, but another example of the importance of getting stuffed checked. Who knows, maybe the car had a rough 19k km or a dog ate the original front seats or something! Not bagging something i haven't seen, but certainly there are some alarm bells. I hope that is fair if the seller is reading this.
