Post by wilsonjermy » Mon 11 May, 2015 5:32 am

hello all,

I am looking to buy one 1959 220 model in the future when i'm ready for it, I'm looking at different sites, I noticed that most of those models are for sale in Vic!!!,
is there a reason for that??

just an observation!!!!!

thanks,

When Australia was wealthy, or wealthier than it is now, a lot of graziers were in Victoria and they seemed to be the ones that bought most of the Mercedes. I don't know if it is perception or not, but you are right - it does appear to be the case. If you are looking for a nice 220s, there is one at Martin Kass's place in Sydney. You can see it on eBay for $14,500. It really is a very nice car and in my opinion, very good value at that price.

Also vic has the best classic rego scheme in the country which makes owning multiple classics possible.

I believe there are new regulations coming which will make it much more difficult for new registrations.

It would also be nice if organisations like the NRMA and RACV would recognise that you can only drive one car at a time and have a subscription that caters to multiple classic vehicles, rather than insisting on a subscription for each. I've got 11 registered vehicles and there is no way I am going to fork out $1100 or so a year for breakdown assistance.

220 Pontons were sold very heavily here in SA when new, the story goes that the main dealer here in Adelaide ordered 50 220A's in 1954 and they were sold very quickly - after that they continued with strong sales of 220S models. Many of these are still here in SA but hidden away - however it is inevitable that some of them would have ended up across the border in Vic. I've actually seen more pontons for sale here in SA recently than Finnies!
