I'm sure that this question has been asked before but can someone tell me the English translation for the word "Ponton".
According to my Google translation it means "Pontoon"??? Seems a funny name for a car

Konrad , you have the correct translation , when somebody saw the base panels welded together they thought that they looked like a pontoon , hence ponton. John

Hi,
at 2:52 I'm in bed snoring ... :laughing6:

I didn't know myself, but there's several "interpretations". I found the form of the body, lacking separate mudguards and running boards in comparison to the prewar cars. Another one is the form of construction/design, which reminds of the pontoons, the mobile bridges. Another source quotes a journalist of the time, who was reminded of pontoons when he saw the design of the front axle.

Maybe just use the official MB version ... http://www.la.mercedes-benz.com/content ... .html#1953

Boy. Sure wish that I lived in Germany. They get to sleep for hours and hours after we have to get up.
