How to Determine if a Dutchman is Driving an Old Mercedes

Post by 1961blueroundy » Thu 10 Dec, 2015 7:47 am

Do you have Dutch genes? You can find it out the following way... (Patents by Kent Bergsma)

Ok, it´s a spoofing video. But see the other videos of Mercedessource!

Really recommedable, that YouTube channel. You can learn a lot! Thanks, Kent!

I am afraid I don't understand the cultural allusion, however if that is the test then I am definitely not Dutch: I would have noticed and straightened it BEFORE getting in!

Of course with an SLC I don't have to worry about that. Instead I reserve my paranoia for other things....like wondering if it's my imagination or "does everybody really want to have a race everytime I drive it in traffic?"

I suppose Kent Bergsma has tried to work through some experiences he has gained in his job... I´ll ask him for that.
Steering straight ahead while looking at a misalinged star? Really disturbing, GRRRRRR! :booty:

You know, as much as it's a spoof video, it's just not funny outside of the fact it's an 'in-joke'.

I absolutely cannot stand driving with a bent star. be it sideways bent, backwards bent or twisted bent. :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:
or just plain old bent. :drunken:

It has to be absolutely straight on each axis. I also have stopped to remove insects that get caught up in it. Last interstate trip It I drove through a plague of locusts and I got so annoyed by the star bending backwards I stopped twice just to set it straight. That in itself was not much fun. I could have used a flamethrower after I got out of the car to clear the area enough to see. Mind you, the mess on the windscreen, lights, bumper and grille was just insane. I stopped at a car wash in the nearest town and spent 30 minutes jetwashing the car clean.

I got a new star when I got home, thinking it was just past it's use by date. It wasn't any stronger in the spring. Must be made from junk these days. I find it extremely irritating. So happy the 107 only has a badge. :laughing6: :sunny:

Perhaps this should go in the thread "you know what I really hate" : I find the star on later model Benzes either racked too far back or only the top of the star is visible. I find that really annoying.

Here´s the solution found by an ENT physician. It´s much more individual than the common star and it´s potentially selfstraightening at higher speed...
