2003 Vito 108 CDI (w638) - Engine cutting out

Post by hugomax » Fri 14 Nov, 2014 6:59 pm

I have an issue which I have been managing since March but has recently got worse. I put a Tunit Performance chip into my 2003 108 CDi in March. All was running well for about 2 hours. After which the engine restricted the revs to 3000.

I got a mechanic in Port Lincoln to look at the ECU readings and there were lots, but as there are no time stamps we had no idea when all the sensor readings went off. The mechanic cleared the readings and I headed to Perth.

I found it difficult to find a mechanic in Perth that could read the ECU. The van would intermittently restrict the revs to 3000. If I was going up hill and gave it some gas over 3000 it always restricted it back.

I recently came back over the Nullabor desert and coincidentally things have got worse again in Port Lincoln. The engine has cut out twice for no reason while on a short trip.

I brought it back to the same mechanic and the following readings were found on the ECU:

P1470 - Charge pressure control
P1187 - Rail pressure monitoring
P1470 - Boost pressure high/low

The mechanic suspects an ECU fault or, 1 or more sensors. He is unsure and does not want to go attacking the van unless he is sure of the fault.

Doe anyone have any input into what the fault is, or what I can do to confirm the problem? I have a lot of km's ahead of me and dont want to be stuck in the middle of no where.

Thanks

Hugo,
Welcome to the OzBenz forum. Sorry to hear about your problems.

Have you tried removing the Tunit chip?

Regards,
Tony

I can't help you but my best suggestion is to call the forum sponsor on the number at the top of this page. If in Port Lincoln, are you enroute to Adelaide? If so I can try and think of a specialist here that might be able to help.
