Beru brand spark plug leads fitment confusion
Hello all
A box of Beru spark plug leads arrived today.
I went to fit the first lead. Now.. the lead does not seem to fit over that little screw on lug thing on the top of the spark plug,
If I unscrew it, it fits, but the lead has to be pushed right down and it does not seem snug.
The same applies at the other end on the distributor cap.
Do I unscrew those lugs on the distributor cap as well, which is a brown colour cap, not Bosch brand.?
Thanks for any advice
Regards
Daz

Re: Beru brand spark plug leads fitment confusion
There are 2 kinds of spark plug caps ( I assume your leads came with caps)
1 Caps that fit on spark plugs with a little adapter on the end, usually made of aluminium
2 Caps that fit on the metric thread on the end of the spark plug
See here:
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=spar ... WlcgdFvUM:
Some spark plugs come with a removable adapter, sometimes it is integral.
My hunch is your caps are made for an adapter, and you are trying to push it onto the thread (which is a loose fit)
Soopercheap might have some loose adapter for you.
The fit on the dizzy cap is different than the plug side. Not sure what is going on there...

Re: Beru brand spark plug leads fitment confusion
Hi, yes my NGK BP6E S comes with a connector that can be screwed on and off.
If the connector is attached, the Beru leads will not go on.
If I unscrew them, the lead certainly goes over the bare thread of the spark plug, BUT feels like it is not snug, which may result in poor connection??

If you look inside a cap that goes onto a threaded end, you will see a small round hole in a piece of brass, and a little spring pin cross ways (looks like a paper clip)
The other type has a larger hole made of pressed steel.
I think you have the latter, and it needs a harder push (could be the rubber is creating a lot of friction, use some silicone spray)

"Won't kick over"
Do you mean that :
With engine at TDC on compression stroke for Cyl #1, Confirm that #1 Spark plug lead is connected to the dizzy cap port where the rotor button id pointing to.
Then using the firing order, connect the other dizzy cap ports to the relevant spark plugs.
Check again.
Do you have fuel?
Do you have air?
Do you mean that :
- the engine will not turn?
- the engine will not fire?

Re: Beru brand spark plug leads fitment confusion
Hi Tony
Engine started before new leads were on.
The engine turns over but no fire up.
Maybe I bumped something? I’ll put the old leads back on this week end and see if she starts again .

Re: Beru brand spark plug leads fitment confusion
Check first if you actually get a spark on at least one spark lead.
If you get spark, it might be the installing order of your HT leads
If you don't get spark, try whether you get a spark from the central HT lead from the coil.
If you do get spark there, your dizzy cap or rotor might be faulty
If you don't get spark from your central HT lead, there is something wrong in the dizzy or between dizzy and coil.
Another option is, that you put your dizzy cap on rotated 180 deg...
It sounds like you need to call a friend.
It's also appreciated if you fill in the location on your profile. That way anyone local could chime in.
