Hydraulic Struts

Post by bash1 » Thu 29 Sep, 2016 11:21 am

Can anyone advise on the availability of new or reconditioned hydraulic struts to suit 450 SEL 6.9 W116.
It would appear that the worn ball joints are the major problem.

There is a business based in Melb that services these MB hydro struts (MB Star Motors in Balcatta WA knows the contact as they send strut repair work required for their own clients cars to the shop)
Or you can try your own local general Hydraulic service business (that do work a all Hydraulic machinery) and they may be able service them including Ball joint.
I don't think you can buy them new any more? The Forum Sponsors "MB Spares" will know. (and even if you could they would be very expensive - like around $1,300 or more each)

Struts no longer available new and all tooling to manufacture them has been scrapped, they will never be made ever again. Thats full hydro 116 and 126 cars inclusive.

Upto about 5 or 10 years ago they were still built on demand and yes over a grand each but those days are over now.

refurbishment or good second hand is the only option now. Ball joints always end up flogged out, new they were almost as much as the whole strut, there may be some left but dont hold you breath,

Some people like motec managed to find NOS 6.9 front struts in Perth but thats like winning the lotto these days.

I have 1 set, front and rear NOS 6.9 leveling valves, these are also rarer than rocking horse sh!t, I no longer have a 6.9 and have now sold them for 3 grand pending payment.

Heres hoping dkubus make something for 6.9's to replace this system when absolutely nothing is left.
