lowering of a w116
hello, can anyone give me some advice on the lowering of the spring height on a 1975 450 SE. I believe the front to be quite straight forward, just a matter of changing the springs to the required height, but as the rear has the original hydraulic suspension can we still just replace the springs with the required height needed? or do we have to disconnect and / or remove the hydraulic system before changing the spring height? i was looking at a 1.5- 2 inch drop all round. Any advice appreciated. Thankyou...

Shaun, did you buy a 116?
you know what my response would be to a chopped 116!
that's irrelevant though, with the SLS im not sure how this would work
I see this car on gumtree,

maybe ring him and ask him if he had issues if his car is SLS?

The current owner of this car, that's being kind, has little knowledge of the workings of this car.njv wrote:Shaun, did you buy a 116?

Most lowered W116's have the SLS butchered and chop, normally too much off, the coils.
The unmolested 280SE I have advertised on Gumtree is currently under offer, subject to a correction of the wheel alignment. This correction being conducted tomorrow along with the replacement of the tracking arm.

Re: lowering of a w116
Okay thanks guys, well I don't wish to 'molest' the car... lol, I just wanted to try to get the car sittin level all round as i'm not a fan personally of vehicles sitting up high at the front, and sometimes the rear even though I realize that they are designed this way for a purpose. I don't wish to muck with the sls at the moment as at it appears to be in vgc and functions well, but basically just do little tweak's I suppose without affecting its ride too much. by looking at that car on gumtree I would assume that there is no sls operational there, even though I haven't rang them it looks pretty dam low. however I'm just learning about the w116 and appreciate the feedback and I will post some pictures of it on here soon.
thanks
Shaun
thanks
