124 wheels on a 116?

Post by Scotty H » Wed 05 Aug, 2015 3:14 pm

Hi All

Are the W124 wheels a straight fit to the W116?. A 260E is on offer locally which has 17inch AMG wheels. They look nice but I'm thinking they'd look even better on my W116. If not, who supplies aftermarket wheels (in your collective experience?)
Where does one get the 16x8 pentas from? I've posted an ad so we'll see what comes of that but would like others' input.

Any information gratefully received.

Regards

Scotty

I am pretty sure the 124 is different standard offset, but that doesn't mean those wheels wont fit because they could have been bolted on and be wrong for that car. Stud pattern is all the same regardless. Also are they real AMG because there are aftermarket wheels with AMG written on them, but if you like them that is the main thing. For Pentas, there is every chance that Kim in the west has some for sale and if you go to the w126 forum or search wheels for sale you will no doubt find him and can send him a PM. Alternately things can pop up on ebay but bear in mind that more often than not, what gets sold is buckled and needs refurbishing and normally costs substantial amounts, and of course you wont know until they arrive and you spin them. The big advantage with Kim is he knows what he is talking about and you will get exactly what he says it is. Can save a whole lot of mucking about and dollars! I talk with some bitter experience!

Thank you for the advice. PM sent.

I really must say that my new foray into Mercedes Benz forum dwelling is a pleasurable experience.

Again thank you Craig.

Anyone else got some ideas for me?

Regards

Scotty

Bolt pattern is the same (5 x 112mm) however offsets differ between the W124 and W116. Standard wheels on a W124 had an offset (ET) of 48 or 49mm and W124 Sportline wheels were ET41. After market wheels on a W124 may go as low in offset as mid 30mm.

W116 wheels had an ET of 30mm and after market wheels ran down to around ET11. Unless the W124 has wheels with a very low offset for that model (ie. less than 30mm) they will not be suitable for a W116.
