I didn't realize the 300 d's came in a pillarless version? There's something new I've learned today!

The earlier ones (up to the "c") had pillars but the "d" was pillarless. Even that last quarter window can be removed to leave the entire side open with nothing between the A pillar and C pillar.

Now Ron, 'fess up. Was this really about showing a photo of a 300d (albeit in an unusual colour) so we could discuss pillars (or lack of) or was it something else in the photo that caught your attention?

Did any of these ever come to Australia?
1980 300TD "Anna" - 400,000kms and still cruising, converted to SVO
1979 300D - sold, gone to be restored
1980 300D - "Lightning" recently purchased and currently making repairs
2006 Musso - Korean Mercedes, 5 cylinder diesel - Blown head gasket, buggered motor, grrrrrrr (I will stick with German Mercs)

Quite a few actually, they are a bit like 600's we seemed to get more here on a per capita basis than other countries. I have had three of them and my father owns one. If I had to guess I would say around 40 still here in Australia. We are currently restoring one that I used to own.

Is that Nicho's one? .They are a very interesting car with some interesting features like an electric feed pump for the injection which cuts out once the engine is running. :Doh:
