Engine and gerabox wanted.

Post by Konrad-Ad » Thu 26 Apr, 2012 10:07 pm

G'day to you all.I'm a newby.
I have a 1953 Adenauer in the :sign2: :sign2: throes of restoration.
I desperately need an engine and gearbox to complete the job.
Any help, from anywhere, would be gratefully appreciated.

Hello Konrad, we spoke on the phone the other day. That will be a real challange, I presume it is a Type 300 and not a 300b?? The compression ratios are differant. Would imagine that you could use either, but would be nice to keep it original if possible.

Thanks for encouragement!!
Perhaps a GEARBOX would be a bit easier to source!!!

In the absence of the "genuine", what alternative(s) are suggested.
BTW,if anyone has a parts vehicle lurking in a forgotten shed, I'd be VERY interested.

Where are you located?
Chris Stewart will have both engine and trans. If you get stuck you can fit a M189 engine and unless someone really know what they were looking at they wouldn't tell the different straight off.

Not sure how much to say 'out loud' here but a club member in Adelaide who is a friend of John Greens has a number of these cars but i am not sure what his spares supply is like and if he would want to part with anything anyway - John will know who i am talking about and possibly will know what he has - just mention it if it jogs a thought to help such a great project to see one of these ride again.

Ah, a couple of promising responses.
I am in "The Hunter" in NSW.
Spoke to JG, but he didn't mention his SA friend.

it's John Whittaker in SA who has the 300's. He restores them as a sideline so I doubt he will sell any bits. Chris Stewart in Cranbourne has a few engines etc and will sell anything.

No doubt there are engines and gearboxes in the hands of various people aroud Australia as we had a larger than normal (by head of population) purchase rate of these now very rare cars. But, almost all owners of these will never sell what they hold as spares. I have a complete almost rust free body shell, could sell a door for mega $$$$ if one was required for an insurance claim. But, what do I do when/if (touch wood) some clown runs into my 300b??

There is a greater chance of finding something in the counties where cars rot away and get to the point where they are not restorable. These cars should still be able to yeild good mechanical parts.

In the USA,even now ,a 300 resto project will still pull in close to $10,000 and my neighbor had to pay that much for a bare engine for a gullwing project. yes there are parts in other countries but they do know what they are worth.
