Value of Australian delivered 560SLs

Post by nucci »

There seems to be a spike in what people are paying for Australian delivered R107s in Australia. In particular the 560SL. I purchased my 560SL seven years ago for $34,000. It is an Australian delivered car, originally sold by BEA in Adelaide. What seems to be only a few years ago, I had Shannons review my insurance policy to determine the agreed value. At that time we cam up with an agreed value of $45,000.

I am now surprised to see that at the 2017 Shannons Melbourne Winter Classic Auction held on Monday 17 July 2017, a 560SL was sold for $95,000 (Lot 43). Was just a one off surprise? I started looking carsales.com only to find four listed as:

1988 Mercedes Benz 560SL (Australian) $198,000 (Is this for real?)
1988 Mercedes Benz 560SL (Australian) $99,000
1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL (American) $30,000
1987 Mercedes Benz 560SL (Australian) $85,000

Can anyone provide more analysis on this topic? Clearly I will now need to revisit the agreed value for the 560SL.

I have found Shannons less than favourable with the policies we have, and in the process of reviewing and moving them to NRMA Classic, who unlike NRMA general are a different bunch, who understand what is required..
We have extreme limited use on the SL, and the 16v. Indeed they have seen less than 10 hours driving in the last 2 years, the SL has been driven for only 6 hours (over 2 separate days)

Not real happy with Shannons and their continuous mailouts with changes of T&C's and their PDS.

When you sign for a policy, that policy should remain binding, and not subject to change without notice or even with notice.... theyre just scamming their way out. It's not the shannons of old...

Suggest you look elsewhere too.

Review your PDS and see what they are trying to weasel their way out of.

I also switched to NRMA classic from Shannons and halved my annual premiums.

I have claimed with NRMA as well and they were good to deal with.
