Hi Joerg,

Welcome - hope you enjoy our friendly forum (of course you may have to get used to some Australian (Aussie) humour but that might be fun too).

Do you mean the door armrest with door-pull handle which is secured at the top next to the door-opening latch?

Perhaps a UK wrecker might be closer / cheaper for shipping to Germany? Or these people may have one or get you one also from the UK: http://www.theslshop.com/

Joerg,

welcome to the forum; that might be a tough one. SL's are pretty rare in Australia (and most forum members prefer the ug.... SLC :laughing6: ). However I would start to find out the part number and see, if it was used in other models, e. g. W116 or W114.
As I just dismantled a W114 limousine: The door handles in the back also fit the front, so I actually have two door handles for sale, unfortunately in dark blue, see here (I don't know, if they fit in the SL):

Finding a door armrest should not be too difficult as I'm fairly sure every RHD 107 (both SL and SLC) had those. It was only the LHD versions which missed out on them. I suggest contacting dismantlers / wreckers / breakers in RHD countries (such as MB Spares here in Australia) for one in your colour.

Oh, and Thomas is only partly correct. Yes, we have a preference for the superior SLC here however the SL was sold in larger numbers and was not rare at all. :laughing6:

Over the last few months there have been a number of occasions where the rivalry between SL and SLC admirers have taken pot shots at each other. This must really stop, before it descends into name calling and questioning of peoples chosen profession.

Or, fight it out like real men....

In the red corner, we have Julian Kaye, Jonathon Hart, Bobby Ewing and Fatima Blush; and in the blue corner.... Mikkola, Waldegard, Cowan and Preston

:p

:laughing6: :laughing6: ... you're right, I should apologise. Just because there's people not so attractive like me who cannot put their pretty face out in the public in a car without a roof doesn't qualify me, to make derogatory remarks about SLC-Drivers ...

So Greg, in what am I partly correct? That people of the area had a better taste and voted in their big majority for the SL? :laughing6:

I'm sure they sold more of the cheap SL here, but because they leak so much water they have either rusted away or buried in garages.... on a serious note though, you do see more slc on the road and over the years i think more for sale. Does anyone know what numbers sold here? I have both though and they are just different cars. Parked next to each other, if I want to go for a drive with a top down, clearly the SL is the only choice. For every other situation with a roof on, I reckon the slc is a better choice, but you can never get that roof down experience. So I think slc's are more visible to us because they get used, and worn out and moved on etc. I reckon the SL is that dream car of having a Convertible Mercedes and so there are a heap sitting in garages where the reality of practicality means we don't see them much on the road. Certainly i know people who use their slc as a daily like our Mad Racoon, but don't know anyone doing the daily in an SL. Also i imagine there has been a lot more slc broken up for parts. It would be interesting to know what is about though still.

But back on topic, my 72 sl and slc have the same as in your photo, with door pull handle at the front of it. My 73 slc has and armrest without the pull handle part, but the chassis number suggests that it started out life as LHD. I imagine the straight armrest would be best, but my guess is that this was available as and accessory on LHD cars and therefore finding one of these easier in LHD countries. The US maybe? We don't have many on here but you could try Benzworld forum. Mine is in blue though. And i have no idea if your later car is same.

Thomas, that was all tongue-in-cheek, you understand. I've never even sat in a 107 SL but have always loved it and can imagine what it must be like (I've been in a Fiat 124 convertible and was brought up in a Series 1 Land Rover drop-top). You can't know how much I liked Bobby Ewing's car and that non-conformist, this-is-me attitude it exuded.

Enjoy the SL :)

Great comments @ all :laughing6:

It's true, what you say. I know of SL's restored with a donor SLC. I remember in 2003/2004 when I started with that ... SLC's were so cheap and noone wanted them. You could get 500SLC for under 10000, just because they weren't an SL. This has changed significantly now. SL's have risen in price too, but - in % - not as much as the SLC's. A huge fan base has developed there.
