Where are the R107 drain holes for the cowl and blower box?

Post by berntd » Wed 05 Oct, 2016 1:13 pm

Hello

I have searched across several forums and although it is mentioned everywhere that the firewall rusts out (a problem which I have here), I can't see anywhere where the original drain holes / channels were located. I have seen pictures of them but I cannot make out where on the body they refer to.

Does anyone know where I should be looking?

Regards
Bernt

Hi berntd,

This might be helpful. Sort of shows general location of drains

Quite a few videos for SLs from The SL Shop too...

Hope they are helpful

Hi Thomas

That is great thank you.
It still does not tell me where the blower box drains are.

It mentions that they egress somewhere in the transmission tunnel but where do they start at the other end?

Are there separate drains for the 2 grilles as well? That is not mentioned.

Hey, I found the tank filler drain :-)
There was a p7ddle of water in there so I ran welding rod down the drain and suddenly all that water pissed into my shoe underneath.

Wait a minute, I just watched that video as per madracoond's link.

That says and shows that the blower box drains through rubber hoses into the sills.

Now I am even more clueless. :dontknow:

I vaguely remember that the sides dump in the middle fan box. So the fan box must have the hose.
I suggest you take the fan out (15 min job, just be careful with the electronic connector, and have a look.

I did take the fan out earlier this week but the reason I need to know the details is because there is nothing there any more.
The fan studs are rusted off and and I cannot see from what is left where the drains should have been.

I need to repair all this but without info, it will be hard.

You reckon that the side boxes do not have any drains but are supposed to run into the centre box?

That sounds like an invitaion for corrosion, especially if the car is parked at a sloping kurb.

Excellent, Thank you. No wonder one can't find those!

The 4 long ones seem to come from 8nside the car?

Yes, below the heater box. you can see them on the left side of the bottom picture above. Didn't think to take any pics at the time, was removing non-original wiring harness butchering for car phone and alarm.

In the trans tunnel, the forward-most are drains from the cowl area
then the 4 drains behind are from the front and rear of the heater box. It is a real PITA job to remove - It is literally the first installation item in the chassis, so everything has to come out - a pillar trim, dash, centre console, carpet, the lot.

Thanks so much. That is the best information I have seen anywhere!!

Do you think the windscreen has to come out to replace the metal in that fan box?

I kind of like a challenge but I won't just dive into the deep end without knowing what I 'm getting into.

Best regards
Bernt
