My week of SL's

Post by markb » Sat 13 Dec, 2014 5:43 pm

1. Wednesday...The 280SL Pagoda as reported in 'Spotted'.

2. Thursday at my work, is one of the workshops of a trucking magnate, who also has an extensive collection, which many of you may have seen in Melbourne. Whilst introducing myself and a couple of construction-related consultants to the guys in the workshop, there was 2 x 198 SL's, one that looked restored and another, primed-shell undergoing a full resto. Without being intrusive or rude, we stood there in awe admiring the workmanship for a few minutes....definitely one of my dream roadsters !

3. Saturday...passing a Garage Sale, the power tools on display caught my eye, and whilst enquiring about prices for a couple of things, and admiring the 380 SL in the garage, the dad came out. Little did I know that as a fellow MBCV member who I've met several times, we lived only a couple of streets from each other.

At least I have 107 SL fog/spotlights on the CE, so I don't feel too poor :boohoo:

yeah, it's a bit hard when you have to look at a signal red 560SL every day for years on end.

I never get sick of looking at it. I do get sick of the regular bank a/c cleanouts it causes.

Wednesday, heading towards town from the Police Academy, a gorgeous and very well preserved dark blue 560SL. Still made me swoon. And miss my 350SLC (parked since last weekend to give it a break from daily duties).

By the way, the fuel consumption of these cars is no worse than (admittedly a 4WD) Holden Adventra wagon 3.6L twin-cam 4valve/cyl...a couple on carsales.com showed the trip computer average reading of 16L and 17L per 100km. So not at all bad for a '60s designed engine (M116 & M117)

Long live the 107s.

1975 350SLC Astral Silver (725) / Blue (2012, 284,900 km - present.... a real Benz, getting better and better)
1988 190E Deep Blue (900) / Cream (2006, 190,000 km - 2007, ~ 215,000 km .... FSH and still spent big $$$)
1974 280E Reed Green (860) / Bone (1993, 316,700 km - 2004, ~490,000 km and still A1)
