SEC Door Interior Servicing

Post by mrsecman » Thu 14 Sep, 2017 12:51 am

It's time to remove the SEC door trims and run a good lube and service. Process will kick off soon now that the weather is getting finer.

Any tips or write ups on this? Past experiences?

Will likely replace the lining plastic sheet as well, and ensure drainage holes are nice and clear, replace any rubbers that need replacing as I only intend to do this once this decade.

Be sure to spray some tectyl or some sort of cavity wax in there to help prevent any rust in the future.

Be gentle removing trims because they have these plastic tabs on the back that can fairly easily be broken. Off the top of my head, remove screws in door handle, pull straight towards you the seat adjust buttons, behind internal door handle lever back the black plastic a bit and will come out, screw behind it, be careful about the backing behind the handle and the seat switch backing because they have tabs that can break, dont forget a small screw in the middle right down the bottom of the trim, chrome trim near the striker, ...... think thats all the bits..... and then the trim itself you need to slide it straight up, parallel to the door and at some stage you can pull it away once the plastic bits behind it are clear from the slots. Its a bit of a pain because in the process it will hit the seat switch and you just need to pull it out there a bit to allow it to keep going up and then come clear.

Be careful though because the bits will break easily and they are hard to get good replacements.
