A/C Fresh air flap actuators

Post by sf0999 » Tue 29 Aug, 2017 8:50 pm

Hello All,

The fresh air flap actuators on the climate control for RHD vehicles are no longer available. This was presenting a challenge as mine had shredded the diaphragms and I was not enjoying the "partial" climate control. I took a punt on ordering the units for a LHD vehicle on speculation that the "guts" would be the same. True the LHD parts do not fit as such, but the only difference is the black lower section that locks into the bracket. As this part was serviceable, it was a quick 5 minute job to swap the lower housing, and now I have 2 "new" working actuators.

Just sharing the experience so other can use the solution.

Did you have to tackle the behind dash actuators at all?

No -just the fresh air flap -all other were working. They are accessible with just the glovebox removed -although for ease access I usually also remove the under tray and the ducting under the glovebox.

Also the diaphragms inside the pods can easily be replaced by a US company that supplies the parts for each style of pod under the dash at a cost of US$7.50 for each pod.

I have repaired my own pods using this method and it was pretty easy - but you have to order the special "pod popper wire tool" he supplies cheap which is a simple tool and be in possession of a small pair or locking pliers (very cheap from Bunnings etc) and a brake Vac Tester (from Repco etc)
It all works a treat to repair them yourself.
But if you are lazy or not confident then just order the new USA pods and mod them for RHD - but they are around $50 or more each that way plus postage.
